Bleeding after period

Hi girls,
I have 4 children and feel very in touch with my body and my menstral cycle. A few months ago a week after finishing my period I started bleeding, fresh red blood, along with period pains. Very out of character for me. Then it happened again this month. I was due my smear yesterday but the nurse couldn’t do it because of the blood getting in the way of the swab. I have a gut feeling something isn’t right. I had abnormal cells at a smear 11 years ago and a biopsy showed CIN 3. I had surgery on my cervix to remove part of it and have had all clear smear tests since. Has anyone had anything like this? I’m trying not to worry about cervical cancer as the smear nurse yesterday did say there’s lots of warning signs with cervical cancer and that she thought it sounds like my womb isn’t emptying/expelling all my period each month. Just wanted to reach out and talk to some other ladies and see if anyone else has had a similar experience xx

Can I ask how old you are ?
Peri menopause can send your periods haywire.
Have you got a plan with the nurse to get a smear when you’re not bleeding ?

MazB1985 · 26/01/2021 11:45

Hi yes I’m 34 so the nurse thought too early for the start of menopause. Yes she has booked me back in for a smear next Monday. Today I still have period pains with it and it is quite clotty and bright red. I’m so puzzled. Thanks for your reply.

You need to see the GP.
Best of luck 🤞🏻

Do you think I need to see the gp sooner than having the smear next week? I don’t really know what to do. Definitely definitely not pregnant, husband has had the snip 😬

I don't think you need to see the GP sooner than next week, you have your test booked, so you are doing everything you can to get to the bottom of it.I also wouldn't worry too much, irregular bleeding happens a lot. Various different reasons! I'm also in my 30s and sometimes my periods are haywire

Yes it could be anything I suppose. The nurse said there are so many warning signs with cervical cancer and that I would’ve known if something wasn’t right. This is only the second time I’ve had a bleed after my period 🤔

Jo's Trust has a lot of useful information. Lots of things are more likely than cancer.

Are you bleeding mid cycle? I think that's what you said. I would go for the smear but would also speak to your gp. Are they doing online consultation or booking?

MazB1985 · 27/01/2021 21:06

Oh yes I’ve heard of jo’s trust ☺️
Yep bleeding a week after finishing my period, so middle of my cycle. I will call my surgery tomorrow and ask for a phone appointment x

I spoke to my gp and she has booked me in for a scan and when I have my smear next Monday she is going to take more swabs and have a proper look at my cervix (as much as she can). Because of my history of CIN 3. Thanks for your advice girls. I feel better knowing there’s more of a plan

That sounds like a good plan, especially with your history. Am sure all will be fine but good to know for sure.

MazB1985 · 28/01/2021 20:08

Absolutely, Thankyou x

I got my smear results back, all clear horay. Now just waiting to have a scan of my womb, it could be fibroids causing the blood to pool each time I have my period, then releasing the blood after my period (hence the bleeding between periods).
