Feeling crap, positive HPV, cell changes after a couple of years of pain, spotting and discharge

Got my letter yesterday and I’m kicking myself for not requesting a smear earlier. I had been to the gp and had some swabs taken (all negative) and an ultrasound scan to try and explain the heavy discharge I was getting. This was in 2019. Then my Dad got ill and died from cancer in February last year and Covid happened so I put down my symptoms to a mixture of stress, potential perimenopause and/or copper coil issues. I then started getting really weird middle ear issues, feeling like I’m upside down, tinnitus and blocked ears which I still have 6 months later, awaiting an ENT referral so the ladybit symptoms took a back seat. Add to all that just generally feeling crap and as if I’m hungover and headachey all the time despite having a good diet and exercise every day.
I’m not sure what I’m asking really, I’m just very worried now that both sets of symptoms are linked. Could this be possible? I think the stress of my dad’s illness and death (we were very close) knocked out my immune system or something. I’m intending phoning my GP tomorrow to see if they can shed any light on what was found in the cell swab.

What stage was the cell changes? Was it mild, moderate etc? Heavy discharge can also be hormonal factors too. Sorry to hear about your Dad x

Thank for replying, they didn’t say in the letter, just that they’ve seen ‘changes’ and to expect an appointment letter from colposcopy within 8 weeks. It also said that if I’ve seen unusual discharge or bleeding to contact the GP, so I’m going to do that tomorrow.

I think hormones are a factor because the discharge (often bloody) is worst at ovulation time.

How old are you op? Could be peri if you're a certain age?
I've had yearly smears for the last 4 years, keeps coming back hpv+ but no abnormal cells. After the third one I was sent for colposcopy, they took biopsies but all was clear.
I've had CIN3 found too, that was about 11 years ago - had no symptoms, but had LLETZ treatment at colp clinic and then was all clear until 4 years ago.

Speak to your GP re your symptoms - chances are it's just hormonal but best to be sure. Good luck op and sorry for the loss of your Dad 💐

Thanks so much, I’m 43 and have had colposcopy before when I was in my early 20s. A smear had found Pre-cancerous cells and colposcopy were going to treat them with the wire but I declined treatment being hard-headed anti-intervention at the time. Subsequent smears showed that my body cleared the cells and I have been fine until this episode.

Blurberoo so many similarities- I've also just a had abnormal smear, diagnosed HPV, have had colposcopy and just today received letter re needing a LLetz procedure. (Have just posted for some advice myself.) I've got the same as you regards some kind of ear/tinnitus/dizziness going on, which I've had a long time now and know I need to get investigated. Also some random other issues, lower back pain, joint aches, GERD issues, and a host of others, and wonder if at 44 I'm perimenopausal and if any of this is connected.
So sorry to hear about your Dad, know it's easy to "park" other things when big things are going on in your life - I did exactly that when I lost my Dad. Trouble is, things have a habit of catching up with us!

@sesamebreadsticks thank you, it’s so weird isn’t it? I am wondering if it’s just being generally run down with stress (internalising stuff) and all these old dormant viruses returning and not shifting. Must day it makes me a bit nervous that my immune system seems to be so rubbish just now.

I definitely think our immune systems take a pounding when there is a lot of stress and can cause a host of other symptoms. I'm wondering where to start with mine and what takes priority! Obvs the ladybits procedure, but I feel I need to rank the other things in order and then just fire them at my doctor! I feel a bit permanently exhausted, so the thought of jumping through hoops trying to sort things out is a bit overwhelming right now.
I think I may have Ménière's disease from old Dr Google, the lower back pain scarily led me to Jo's Trust when I googled, so now I'm wondering if that's linked to my abnormal cells, but I do think I'm going through some massive hormonal changes too, which could account for the aches and pains and general fatigue. The frequent burping and chest pain can wait!

Hpv positive and cell changes but on wait list for a Colposcopy . Been waiting 5 weeks but could be a few months as hospital is so behind. Not sure if I should start to worry as last smear was 6 years ago but wasn’t tested for HPV then ?
