Why do I keep getting cystitis?

I’ve been with my partner for about a year now. We only see each other once a week or so (or not at all now that we’ve been upped to Tier 3) and have sex a lot when we see each other.

Every time after I’ve seen him I get cystitis the next day. We don’t do anything weird or rough in bed, we’ve been really strict with hygiene as I thought maybe he had dirty hands or something that kept causing it. We stopped using condoms(after we’d both had sti tests) about 3months in as I thought perhaps that was causing it somehow but I still get it.

I’ve had cystitis once in my life before this and that was before I was sexually active. I’ve learned to fend off the worst of it by drinking pints and pints of water after I’ve seen him. I saw him yesterday morning and, as it was NYE, I got distracted by other stuff and didn’t drink loads of water.

I’ve now got a fever, blood in my urine and I’m in absolute agony. I can’t keep doing this every time I see him, it’s insane.

Is it possible to have a urethra that is allergic to someone? I don’t understand it. Has anyone else had anything similar or found a way to stop it?

I feel like absolute death at the moment. I’ve been necking those sachets you can get from Boots but still got blood in urine. I had to travel to see my sister yesterday as a family emergency so haven’t been able to get any antibiotics yet. I can’t even stand up straight it’s so painful. I’m home now though and just taken some co-codamol now that I don’t have to worry about driving.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get to the doctors tomorrow and get something.

It sounds like you should ring 111 you might be able to pick up some antibiotics today.

Catsneezies · 03/01/2021 15:11

I agree. Get some today. You don't want it causing a kidney infection.

letsnotscaretheneighbours · 03/01/2021 15:21

I'll third that. Kidney infections are really bad.

Bobbiepin · 03/01/2021 15:59

Please call 111.

I had this after my ex. Every time. Turns out he'd given me chlamydia. He had no idea.

I gave this though with my current partner. I keep a bottle of potassium citrate in the house always, just in case. It's the same active ingredient as the sachets but cheap and easy,

Most importantly-ALWAYS WEE STRAIGHT AFTER SEX! Always.

I get not I gave!!

@BathFullOfEels how are you today?

BathFullOfEels · 04/01/2021 10:57

I’ve just been to the GP and got some Amoxicillin. He originally wanted to wait until the urine test came back before prescribing anything even though there was blood visible in the sample but I started crying so he prescribed me some straightaway instead. He does that every time, it’s so infuriating having to wait for medicine that I know works, that he knows works and is what I need and leave me in pain for another 2 days before I can start it.

It normally takes a day or so before I start to feel better but at least dc are back at school today so I can feel sorry for myself in bed.

I'm glad you have got something, it's shocking you had so much trouble.
Lots of people suffer from recurrent utis and are prescribed antibiotics to have on hand.

BathFullOfEels · 04/01/2021 11:47

That’s interesting bellagogosdead. I’ve thought many times how good it would be to have a stash just in case. It’s so obvious when you’ve got a UTI and I know now when it’s at the point that I need AB’s. There’s no way that my GP would do it as he’s (probably justifiably) very reticent to prescribe AB’s unless absolutely necessary. There’s a few places online that look like they prescribe for UTI’s though so I might just get some from there to have for next time.

I had the same. It was a urethral structure/stenosis. I had a dilatation and it sorted it out. You need to see a Urologist.
