Embarrassing smell situation

Help!
This is embarrassing and I am definitely NOT a troll.

Ok so for a while now I have had a very strong fish smelling vagina. So bad that if I sit cross legged it smells incredibly strong. I wash down there regularly with 0% femfresh, and I've also tried plain water and also just leaving it to do its own thing. Nothing works it still smells the same. I've also tried using a canesten thrush pessary and that did precisely bugger all so its not thrush I don't think. Its also sometimes itchy but the main issue is smell.

I've recently been to the doctors who actually checked down there and really wasn't interested and just said to watch what clothes I'm wearing. No advice on if it was BV at all or something different!

What can I do about this? Its incredibly embarrassing. Should I go back to the doctors and push it further?

I've had a friend tell me this, the doctor said it was showering too much, taking the natural oils from her body causing this problem. She was in shower twice a day every day. She cut it down to once and the smell vanished

@ConfusedcomMum

Your vagina (the internal bit) doesn't even need water. Douching is bad for you.

I had to laugh at this. Most of the world's population use water to clean down there.

OK, female reproductive anatomy 101:

The outside bit is the vulva. The inside bit is the vagina. The outside bit (vulva) yes, clean away. The inside bit, (vagina) is self-cleaning. Do not use anything, even water, to clean this bit as it'll knock the pH out of whack and you'll wind up with an infection.

you can buy a treatment for BV direct from the chemist, made by canesten.

@PeppaPigTill a very small part of retained tampon, could cause this smell, unfortunately I know this to be true, you need an examination before assuming it's BV

Had this a few times and it’s awful so I sympathise - usually after sex.

  1. make sure you pee after sex to flush bacteria
  2. a bit of canesten on the end of a tampon can help temporarily
  3. metronidazole antibiotics are the best for this and the only thing that have worked for me - do not drink with these

Hi, I have noticed this but it's always around day 16 or 17 of my cycle. I'm wondering if it's hormonal. It has got more noticeable since I stopped taking the pill and also after kids. I'm still thinking ill probably go to the doctors just to be sure. Interesting to hear others' experiences.
