Itching in genital area 😫

notacooldad · 26/12/2020 20:07

I've started going through the menopause and I was warned about itching around the pubic area.
It is driving me nuts! I try not to scratch but even a light touch 'down there' feels like it has been ripped to bits.
Anyone had this or can recommend anything to ease the symptoms?
Thanks

I can only suggest vagisil as general over the counter remedy.

Harpydragon · 26/12/2020 20:13

Omg I have this but didn't know it was menopause related! I've been using vagisil which helps a bit, making sure that area is very dry by using talcum powder and like you, trying not to itch!

Timeforabiscuit · 26/12/2020 20:24

Erm, the talc is going to dry you out more surely?!

dingledongle · 26/12/2020 20:30

Double base or zero double gel has worked for me as well as vagifem (internally)

Tanfastic · 26/12/2020 20:50

I personally wouldn't put talc down there, I would think that would make the itch worse. I have started getting the itch too, I'm 47.

Harpydragon · 26/12/2020 20:58

I know it's weird but the talc really seems to help when you are all hot and glowy. might not work for everyone but does for me.

Tanfastic · 26/12/2020 21:03

I do use talc under my boobs but that's for sweaty rather than itchy 😂

marmiteloversunite · 26/12/2020 21:14

I think that talc is not a good idea in the genital area. It is being looked into as possibly carcinogenic in that area.

Littleyell · 26/12/2020 21:18

Are you sure it isn’t thrush? I had it and didn’t even realise!

Avoid perfume washes. Try Aqueous cream.

Sazlock · 26/12/2020 21:31

Could be lichen sclerosis. Plenty of info on menopause websites.

I have this and its hormonal but not from menopause, its from breastfeeding.

Have been using coconut oil which is really good or aloe Vera. I have loads of diprobsse cream in the cupboard and never thought to try that. Will give it a go.

Never got it with breastfeeding first child, I got the sweats instead but just at the start. Am 9 months in to breastfeeding now and hoping it will start to tail off soon. Hope I don't get this again in the menopause.

I swear by the multi gyn brand. The wash is very gentle and the actigel is great at balancing without being harsh

Just see your gp and get some vagifem pessaries. You need the oestrogen.
