Desogestrel- non stop bleeding!

Gabby16 · 22/12/2020 17:16

I got the implant fitted in July this year, I bled everyday for weeks and weeks so they put me in the desogestrel pill to calm things down. Which is didn't and I was still bleeding everyday.

I then got the implant removed nearly 2 months ago and stayed on the desogestrel pill but I'm still bleeding everyday!

I've basically been bleeding for 5 months straight and it's really starting to get on my nerves now!

I can only take a progesterone only pill.

Just wondering if anyone else had this problem and did it calm down eventually?

I'm not ready for another baby yet but I want something that won't take long when I come off it for me to be able to conceive again!

Maybe try a different mini pill that doesn't contain desogestrel

Comps83 · 23/12/2020 10:25

Yes mini pill made me bleed for months
I've stuck with it in the past and then only had a period maybe every 3 months but I went back on it after having my baby this year and got so fed up with the bleeding I came off it and just use condoms now

I bled for 3 months solid on the mini pill. I had clots the size of my fist coming out. I had investigations, a scan and hysteroscopy. Had a coil fitted, now I have periods randomly for up to 10 days which are very watery. But I am 42 and in perimenopause. I dont think I get on with hormonal contraception, I got pregnant with my son whilst on the pill. I just stick to condoms, which are perfectly safe and I have never had a problem with.

I'm on the mini pill, have been for 6 months, and have only in the last few weeks stopped bleeding every day. Crazy, but I stick with it because it gives you 12 hours to take the pill instead of 3.

dementedpixie · 23/12/2020 13:32

There are a couple of different types of mini pill. Maybe you could try a different one

I take desogestrel abs have done for 4.5 years. I bleed constantly at first for 3 months, some very light days and heavy days, then had intermittent light ‘periods’ every 3 weeks. After a year it settled and all periods have stopped now. No bleeding at all. I checked with the nurse who advised me it can take 12-18 months for you body to settle down with this. It’s more of a long term treatment than quick acting like a injection etc

WinterStrawbsAreLikeTurnip · 23/12/2020 14:41

Desogestrel left me bleeding for 6 months before I quit. I am now on levenogestrel (Norgeston) and that's working fine for me and I bleed as I would without the pill which is fine.

Gabby16 · 23/12/2020 16:12

@Lilac95 12-18 months? I dont think I can handle it for that long 😂! I was never told this otherwise I wouldn't of started taking it 😂!

Thanks for telling me

When I took cerazette I only had 1 period and then they stopped. I had tried other mini pills and had fortnightly periods with them

CinnamonTeaForMe · 23/12/2020 17:26

Yeah the mini pill makes me bleed endlessly. It sucks. It does eventually die down if you can stick it out. I had better luck on the depo injections but not sure how easy it is to get those with covid restrictions right now.

dementedpixie · 23/12/2020 17:39

The depo made me bleed but desogestrel didn't
Hormones are weird

Dear all, I’m in the exact same boat, please say something that would make me feel less worried: I’ve had a thrombosis 3 months ago, so I had to go on Desogestrel (I’m also taking blood thinner)…so it is my 3rd month and last month my period was 12 days long, this time it is 2 and a half weeks already..and not stopping. I’ve been to gynaecologist, had ultrasound, all seems well, they say it’s not the blood thinner, as it would not affect periods (!?), but just looking at the blood every day, it makes me worried if this will ever stop :’( GP says the same thing, keep taking, it’ll adjust…but I’m very hopeless now, so please let me know your experiences, has it ever stopped for you? Shall I stick with it? I’m so hopeless :( thanks in advance
