Apologies for the shameless post for traffic but in a bit of a tizz. NC for obvious reasons. Shaved pubic area badly on Saturday. Noticed this rash last night which was weeping slightly this morning. Have a history of hsv (please be kind!) but have never had the sores on the pubic mound, they always show on the labia. Could it be an ingrown hair and if so would a cream help? Sorry for the tmi. Im aware the gp is best person to contact but they are so difficult to get a hold of at the minute. No other history of stis and haven't had sex with DH since DD was born 4 months ago.

That looks like herpes to me. Are you very sore?

VapeVamp12 · 22/12/2020 16:28

Yes looks like Herpes Simplex virus

MrDarcyismines · 22/12/2020 16:29

Agree with first poster. Does look like herpes I'm afraid

Pukkatea · 22/12/2020 16:30

HSV sores usually appear in the same spot but not always. If it's weeping that also seems like the blisters are bursting. Have you had any other symptoms, soreness around the area, lower belly etc? Ingrown hair would be unlikely to cluster like that and would be much more red and spot-like.

telephonebox · 22/12/2020 16:32

It looks like herpes I'm afraid.

HermioneG88 · 22/12/2020 16:33

Yes it is fairly sore. I do have a history of herpes but have never got it in that location before. Even on my first outbreak many years ago it was always lower down. It always shows on the labia (sorry again for the tmi). I was thinking it maybe had something to do with my poor attempt at shaving as the timing is a bit coincidental.

The herpes virus can lie dormant for years at a time, it definitely looks like herpes - probably just a coincidink that it's appeared now.

ShirleyPhallus · 22/12/2020 16:35

You might wanna get this moved OP, not sure AIBU is the place for it

MrDarcyismines · 22/12/2020 16:36

When I shave I do get spots if I shave wrong. Nothing like that though.

PreRaphaeliteMotherhood · 22/12/2020 16:37

It does look exactly like herpes I’m afraid. Usually if it was shaving related the hair follicles would be inflamed and it would look like sports with hairs sticking out of them or ingrowing hairs. Yours looks totally separate to the follicles.

Bluntness100 · 22/12/2020 16:37

A quick google says that’s herpes op

PoodleMoth · 22/12/2020 16:40

I would have said herpes too but I'm not a doctor!

LilyMumsnet · 22/12/2020 16:43

Hi OP

We're just moving your thread over to the health topic and we will add a warning for the image. Flowers

HermioneG88 · 22/12/2020 20:05

Thank you everyone (and @Lilymumsnet) for moving the thread. It definitely does look like herpes but have never had it in that area before. Could it possibly be a staph infection? I have the tablets for herpes already but don't want to take them in case it is something else

OP posts:
ofwarren · 22/12/2020 20:09

Staph is more red and has yellow puss.
I get cold sores on my mouth that can pop up where I have split my lip. I bet that is what's happened. You've nicked the skin and a sore came up in that area.

HermioneG88 · 22/12/2020 20:16

Ah that's very possible @ofwarren. I was probably a bit rough with the razor. Thanks for the reply!

lilylongjohn · 22/12/2020 20:20

I get ingrowing hairs when I shave and they don't look like this. They look like shingles which, I believe, is the same virus as herpes

HermioneG88 · 22/12/2020 21:36

Oh gosh @lilylongjohn I hope its not shingles. Is it possible to get shingles there? I've no rash elsewhere (yet!)

OP posts:
lilylongjohn · 22/12/2020 21:40

You normally get shingles around your chest and tummy but you can get it around your genital area.

I had it on my side and it was a really small area, about the size of a 20p with almost see through blisters all clustered together. I felt a bit like I had the flu and they itched a bit and were sore. My gp said I had a mild case of shingles

RunningFromInsanity · 22/12/2020 22:13

If you are prone to herpes and it looks like previous herpes infections you’ve had, then I think it’s pretty obvious!

Bluntness100 · 22/12/2020 22:19

I also think it’s fairly obvious op, sorry. You have herpes, this looks identical to a herpes outbreak, the fact it’s in a slightly different area is fairly irrelevant. I think you need to take your tablets.
