Breast mass! Painful!

Hello everyone.....

Just wondered if anyone has been in the same position as I'm panicking a bit!
Had DC2 8-9 weeks ago and since they were born I've been breastfeeding. In one breast I had a swollen, what I thought was milk gland. My little one had a bad tongue tie and I thought that's why the boob wasn't emptying properly. Fast forward 8 weeks and it's still there. A mass that's painful, no redness and no fever. It's painful to feed off. I have had mastitis several times with DC1 and it doesn't seem like this.
I spoke to doc about it at 6 week check and she's not that bothered but will refer to breast clinic (not currently at home so can't go for a few weeks). I have since seen another doctor whilst away and he's given me antibiotics for a week and then review, he thinks it could be a mastitis type thing but he's not sure.
I am now really worried that it's something really bad and the breastfeeding has masked it.
Has anyone had a large painful mass that's been there for a while and turned out to be a mastitis type thing and not too serious?
Thank you V much, trying not to let it ruin Christmas! X

I had a blocked duct that took weeks to clear, never got infected or anything.

Has it moved at all or changed in terms of pain after feeding/pumping? It could be a plugged duct (as SpamIAm says, they can take weeks to clear - massaging in the direction of your nipple as you feed can help). It could be a cyst (fluid filled sac, often hormonal, so likely to resolve as yours settle) or a galactocele (milk filled sac, can resolve itself or be aspirated if not improving).

Of course no-one can tell you over the internet what it is. Generally though...if a breast mass is regular shaped, no eczema-like nipple crusting and no “orange peel” skin on the breast... it’s overwhelming likely something benign like a cyst. The breast clinic will be able do an ultrasound to confirm a cyst/galactocele/plugged duct.

Hopefully that reassures you, but if not or if you feel it’s getting worse, have the nipple crusting, orange peel skin on breast, or any other worries... your GP will absolutely understand if you ask to see them again about it x

Go to the doctor ffs

gettingupearlyzzzz · 24/12/2020 09:14

@LunaLula83, thank you! I have been to the doctor....twice! FFS

@SpamIAm & @AsMuchUseAsAMarzipanDildo, thank you for your helpful comments, I really appreciate it.
Antibiotics don't seem to be working, I'm seeing the doctor again on Tuesday. The mass is still massive and painful....no other symptoms. I have tried to express today to try and clear it but that doesn't do anything! I am still very worried and hoping it won't impact on tomorrow Sad
Thank you again for taking the time to respond, have a good Christmas x

@AsMuchUseAsAMarzipanDildo seems to be a bit more prominent when I'm needing to feed but that might be the milk underneath, it's not moving or anything like that.
@SpamIAm, did you have to have anything done to it to get rid of it?
It's 9 weeks I've had it now and no improvement! Sad
