Unusually heavy period

By way of background, I’m 38, no children but plenty of failed fertility treatment. None over the last 6 months though.

My periods in general have been getting lighter, usually only 1 day of heavy bleeding and then light for 2 or 3. Cycle is still regular, 28/29 days. This month, I’ve been bleeding heavily for 4 days so far. Clots, dark red blood, flooding. All making life very difficult and I feel totally drained.

I’m ashamed to say I’ve gained quite a lot of weight in the last year. Failed IVFs and lockdown haven’t helped. I’ve also been drinking more alcohol than usual. Might any of these be the cause? Is it normal to have ‘different’ periods from month to month?

I had one the month before I fell pregnant (previously long term infertility) I bled heavily for a week and was so worried and frightened. My GP referred me for a scan only for me to fall pregnant later that month. I don’t know what caused it but I’ve never had one like that before or since. My periods were always very light and short.

How strange @Bettyboop82 but glad it ended well for you! I can’t get pregnant naturally due to having to have both tubes taken out as part of this horrendous journey. I have had a bit of pelvic pain this month too which id put down to adhesions from the various procedures (drs have mentioned this before). Bleeding seems to have subsided (mostly) for now which is a relief. I just can’t remember having this kind of variance before.
