Spotting between periods, worried

Hello everyone

Hopefully someone can help who has gone through similar!

I have had spotting between periods on and off for most of my life, but it has become increasingly bad the last couple of years.

It used to be the case that I would spot a week or so before my period, which was put down to luteal phase defect. I had a hysteroscopy two years ago which found a small polyp and that was removed, but the surgeon thought it was just an incidental finding and hadn’t actually caused my symptoms. I also had a clear smear in Dec 2018.

The symptoms went away for about a year and then returned late last year, but the spotting started to occur more randomly, typically starting a few days after my period had finished and then stopping and starting. It has now been going on for the past year, some months are worse than others.

I went for a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound in the summer and also had an endometrial biopsy, all of which reported nothing of significance.

This month has now been especially bad, my period isn’t due yet I am suffering cramps and bleeding which is going through to my underwear.

I am naturally getting very concerned and wonder if anyone can advise or if you’ve been in a similar position.

Thanks for reading
Amanda x

I should also add that I am 40 and early this year I had a blood test to check my hormone levels in case of peri menopause, but this was normal x

Have you been checked for cervical etropion?

monkeyadja · 13/12/2020 23:04

Hi - The gynaecologist did an internal and said my cervix looks fine, so I’m sure she would have said if she’d seen anything x
