Hi all

I'm just looking to see if anybody has been in the same boat as me and what it turned out to be?

I gave birth october last year and breastfed exclusively for 12 full months, no period at all during this time which I thought was normal as we are told its normal not to while breastfeeding

I stopped breastfeeding cold turkey 5 weeks ago and I still haven't had a period and now I'm really worrying there's something serious wrong with me,waiting for a GP to ring me today.

Can anyone help? Oh and definitely not pregnant.
Thanks!

Have you lost a lot of weight since having the baby? Or do you exercise a lot?

Cakesandpie · 27/11/2020 13:25

Hi thanks for replying, no exercise and no weight loss! I'm about a stone heavier than I was pre baby but I've cut out chocolate now and eating lots of healthy food, but even with doing that I don't seem to be losing any weight, not sure if it could be related

The GP will hopefully order some blood tests to try to find out the cause. With me it was high Prolactin.

Carrotcakey · 27/11/2020 13:33

Could be thyroid related, would be worth getting bloods. They’ll do that for this anyway.

Mine came back about a month after stopping feeding both times so it could still be just one of those things. Bodies are funny things and hormones are so complex.

Thanks, sorry to be personal but for how long did you miss a period for? For high prolactin can it be sorted easily?

I really am hoping its just one of those things! I am a real worrier when it comes to things like this Sad

Hi I’m actually going through this to. Although my son is nearly 4 years old. I have not had any periods at all since he was born. I had blood test which showed my hormones are low . They scanned me and said everything looked normal. So I have to go for repeats bloods in a month and a follow up in 3 months if they haven’t returned. I’m not sure what will happen if they haven’t but hope they will do something as I really would like to have more children also I’m in a lot of pain even though I have no periods. It’s very frustrating. I would definitely talk to your gp

Wow! Glad to hear everything has come back normal, although it must be so frustrating not having an answer. Hoping they do something for you ASAP Flowers im surprised they're not making it more urgent considering the timescale! The GP has phoned back now and said that its completely normal, still early days and not to worry (phew) BUT that's assuming it actually comes back soon! Thanks for replying!

Yea I was surprised to be honest. I kept leaving it as I have cramps I keep thinking it will come🤦‍♀️ Hopefully will get it sorted soon though. Yea I guess it is early days for u as you stopped breastfeeding 5 weeks ago but I would definitely go back if you don’t get your period back. Don’t leave it for some reason my dr didn’t even want to see me at first. It’s very frustrating but best to keep on top. Good luck .

Mines only just come back about two months after stopping breastfeeding completely. I had a teeny bit of spotting about 5/6 weeks, then another 6 weeks on I had a heavy period. Took about 6 weeks after stopping breastfeeding my first baby too before I got a period.

shehadsomuchpotential · 27/11/2020 19:59

I think its very normal! I was well over a year both times. And have heard of plenty others. But if its worrying you a lot you should get professional advice x
