Peri menopause - very heavy bleeding

Just wondered if this is normal? I'm 49. Periods are becoming a bit less regular. Last cycle was 6 weeks, now suddenly my period has come and is extremely heavy. Soaking a super plus tampon in half an hour. Clots and clumps tumbling out. My bathroom looks like a murder has taken place.
Never had anything like this in my life, not even post childbirth. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this just a part of the joy of perimenopause?

I've had 2 months with nothing - I thought maybe that was it. But then the heaviest period I've had in my life. It was awful but in some ways a relief. For the two months with nothing I constantly felt heavy and like I was about to have a period but absolutely nothing happened - not even a spot.

Interesting reading this. I’m 42 and also experiencing this spotting / brown discharge for 3 weeks and now heavy bleed painful and jelly like clots. Had a scan last week which showed my lining was still thick - this was after the 3 weeks of spotting brown blood. Seeing consultant next week.

I'm having this too,at 49. I race to the loo,sit down and almost feel faint when it's all pouring out. I even pant sometimes? Like I'm exhausted.
I missed a period last year and was hoping my periods would fade out,but they're back to almost monthly but only last 2 days.
