Ever since I was 16, UTIs and thrush have been something that I have battled with. I remember sitting in the school library and a friend telling me what was causing my pain - I had no idea, having never experienced a UTI before! I don't know about you but we were never really taught about vaginal health at school and there still seems to be such a taboo around the subject!
Gynaecologists and doctors suggest cotton underwear for optimum vaginal health, however many sexy styles of underwear on the market are made from synthetic and highly-elasticated fabrics, and often aggravate and amplify infections such as UTIs and thrush. That's when I came up with the idea for Merri Intimates....
I believe that underwear has the power to make women feel confident and beautiful and that no woman should have to compromise this for her health. I want to start producing sustainable and ethical organic cotton knickers that are also sexy and flattering. Currently many women don't want to wear cotton pants because of their unflattering style, despite knowing that they are beneficial to their intimate health. Merri Intimates aims to prove that cotton pants do not have to be "granny pants"!
Thats where I was hoping to get the support of this awesome community... it's not easy being a female led start-up trying to combat common female problems which aren't commonly spoken about!
I would be really interested to know if any of you have struggled with this problem and what your underwear pet peeves are? Have UTIs or thrush affected your life in any way and if so how do you try to avoid recurrences of these infections? I would love any personal insights to help me understand this problem outside of my personal experience! I'd also love to hear your feedback on this business idea - do you find it difficult to find cotton underwear that makes you feel great? It's been so difficult to speak to real women, especially in this lockdown, so any thoughts or stories you have I would love to hear them!
