Bleeding during/after sex

Really sorry if this TMI but I'm at a bit of a loss of what to do in this situation.

April last year during sex I started bleeding... it was a lot, very bright red. Assumed I was coming in as only few days before my period.

But woke in the morning and bleeding has stopped. Came on a few days later as normal.

The bleeding during sex started happening the majority of the times we had intercourse. I was due a smear so got that booked. It took a few months to get a result but it came back clear.

The bleeding continued so I went to my Gp who referred me to Gynaecology. Had an appointment at the end of last year. He did an internal but just said he couldn't see any issues with the Cervix. Not to worry.

The bleeding carried on for a while but then seemed to stop. It didn't happen for a good couple of months. Until this weekend.... it happened twice.

I should go back to the GP shouldn't I? I mean it's not normal is it? But worry I'm wasting their time when a gynaecologist has said all looks fine!

My period has gone from normal 28 day cycle to around 24/25 the past 6 months. And I had letz procedure in 2010 to remove pre cancerous cells from my cervix.

How frustrating! If you can afford a private consultation with a gynaecologist I would do it for peace of mind if nothing else.

williowrosenburg · 29/12/2020 11:38

@ChablisandCrisps
It really is.
Obviously I don't want them to find anything but at the same time something is quite obviously not right! So I was hoping the scan would shed some light on things but it really wasn't much of a scan!

As I should have an appointment within 14 days I won't go private just yet, will see what happens with that appointment and the blood tests.

This is exactly what's happening to me.
With me I'm having vaginal soreness to on right hand side if I touch it.
I have endometriosis and I'm assuming it's caused by that.
I'm asking for a referral back to gynaecology

HadleysHope1 · 01/01/2021 20:16

I have almost exactly the same symptoms as you OP and I am the same age. I also spot brown before my period and bleed at smear tests which is unpleasant. I find it ruins sex and if I am honest I could quite happily never have sex again! But seeing as I am married I suppose that's unfair.

I have been to the gynecologist before who said I had a small ectropian but they didn't treat it. Luckily my smears have always been normal but I have awful health anxiety and my my mind goes into overdrive.

I hope you find some answers and manage to get it sorted.

maxxyboy · 01/01/2021 20:22

@HadleysHope1 I have the same too,I dread having sex

HadleysHope1 · 01/01/2021 20:35

maxxyboy you have my sympathy. Honestly at times I have fantasised about leaving my DH and living a life of celibacy just so I never have to have sex again. Which is crazy because I love my DH but my sex drive is just non existent....

Sorry you are going through this ☹️ it's such a worry - I'm going through similar, so watching this thread with interest.

Mine is random bleeding after sex, and my latest period was just one day - very unusual for me. We are currently trying to conceive our second child without success so I'm worried it's all linked. We suffered a miscarriage in September too. Have had an internal check and ultrasound - all clear. Been referred to gynae so just waiting for that...

Can't believe I've found this thread as have been wanting to write one for ages asking for other people's experiences. Thank you for sharing and I hope you get some answers soon x

Hi,sorry didn't realise there was new posts on here.

So sorry for those going through similar! Please see your drs and her referred... make a nuisance of yourself! You really shouldn't have to live with it!

I had phone consultation with a gynaecologist last week... she's referring me for a colposcopy, which I'm having tomorrow.
I also had my blood test done last week, it had 10 different things to check for.
I called GP the next day and told all clear. Which really put my mind at rest.

However, Drs surgery have just called and said I need to have an appointment to speak to GP as one just came in and it needs the GP to go over it with me!!
Now slightly shitting myself!!

I hope your colposcopy went ok OP.

williowrosenburg · 05/01/2021 15:08

Well... I wish they sent me to have the colposcopy ages ago!!!

They had a look... and so did I as it was up on a screen!!

I had a LLETZ procedure in 2010. And where they'd removed bit of my cervix a blood vessel had .... grown?? Anyway she touch it slightly with a cotton bud and it bleed loads!
She took a biopsy of it and cauterised it.
So that appears to be what my bleeding was! Fingers crossed!!!

Have no idea what the GP is gonna say about my blood results now though!

Just fingers crossed that is all it was!!

To the rest of you, please go and speak to your GP!! X

Oh wow - that's great it looks like they've found the cause of it and treated it! Such a shame we have to wait so long to get to that point. But I'm really pleased for you - must be a weight off.

I'm sure the bloods will be fine, fingers crossed for you x

Was your thyroid a cause for this? I'm going through the same thing and my thyroid is slightly elevated aswell, routine blood in 2 months time
jeffersonsam · 09/11/2021 07:07

My small suggestion is, seek help to your family doctor. Sometimes bleeding occur due to wounds in your private part.

It only happens a few days before I'm due
jeffersonsam · 10/11/2021 12:44

Ok, then wait for few days. Then check it with your family doctor. Take care.

Happydaisydoo · 08/10/2023 07:10

@williowrosenburg was your bleeding heavy? Mine has been and I had Lletz 8 months ago I’m awaiting colposcopy again
