Cervical Cancer worries

Having a nightmare posting on the forum on Jos trust (I go to post but nothing appears) so any advice would be very appreciated.

31 years old, up to date smears but was due summer of this year but covid cancelled it. (I'm in wales) Last smear advised HPV negative but mild changes. No follow up.

In the last 3 months I've suffered with pelvic pain (dull ache with some intermittent sharp pains), bleeding/pink discharge after sex X3, back pain (unknown if related) and just a general rubbish feeling. Family have history of cervical cancer (both cases caught early and dealt with my LLETZ.

I had to wait 4 weeks for a phone call with the gp, who has now advised I just need a smear which I have to wait another 3 and half weeks for. My understanding of guidelines in Wales is that any bleeding should have a full pelvic examination.

Am I being unreasonable if I kick up a bit of a fuss about it? I feel like it's been quite a significant delay - it'll probably be about 10 weeks in total to get it moving. Or is it just that my symptoms aren't that bad? I.know covid is.likely to affect it and I don't want to be a burden on the NHS.

Has anyone also had cervical cancer without HPV? I haven't changed partners is it possible to change?

I'm not sure why, but I just have a gut feeling something's wrong.

Hope someone can give you some advice soon.

All I know is that I’ve had bleeding after sex and always convinced myself it was something sinister, despite clear smears. Mine turned out to be a cervical ectropian both times (5 years apart) but more recently I was told it’s being caused by my womb not completely shedding its lining during my period each cycle. Linked to my pcos and possible perimenopause.

Please try not to worry, there could be lots of reasons for your symptoms. Fingers crossed your smear comes back fine.

Thanks so much for your reply. I think I would be less worried if it wasn't for the family history and ongoing pain.

It's the waiting that's the worst!

Post coital bleeding should be investigated, YANBU to request a referral for Colposcopy given your symptoms and history.

Could be cervical ectropian. Ask your doctor or nurse when they do your smear if you have one they should be able to tell you straight away Smile

Kick up a fuss, please. Don't leave this alone! I've had the same problems, I had bleeding after sex, pain in my pelvis and back ache. My smear was clear, checked my cervix which has a nabolitian cyst and she thinks it popped as it can be filled with blood, and I also had the worse urine infection! Hence the back and belly pain. Touch wood, it's all gone now, however they are now suspected endometriosis but that's because of my pelvic surgery history which makes it more likely...

Despite all of this, you STILL need seeing to. It does NOT mean you have CC. Most likely a cervical ectroption which can cause pain. I had it when I was pregnant and it caused random bleeds during my pregnancy.
