Thickened uterus lining

afrikat · 19/10/2020 13:05

I was referred to the hospital for a scan due to heavy, very painful periods. They said I would need an onward referral to gynaecology due to thickened uterus lining, my GP is calling tomorrow to discuss further but Dr Google shows endometrial hyperplasia as a possibly cause.

Has anyone else had similar scan and ended up being nothing? Or experience of thickened uterus lining, what was the diagnosis?

My such lining was caused by estrogen and progesterone imbalance as a part of peri menopause. I had also read about endometrial hyperplasia being a cause but the gynaecologist did not mention this. In my case this caused constant bleeding which necessitated ablation surgery to remove the lining.

Go should ideally refer you to a gynae, this type of issue is well outside a GPs remit.

Hi Smile I haven't had my results yet but I'm going through similar atm. I was referred to gynae because my cycles have been long with mid cycle spotting since my MC in Jan. Ultrasound showed lining was 14mm which she said could be because I hadn't had a bleed for a while (9 weeks) but she did a biopsy to check for hyperplasia. Also took lots of bloods to check hormones etc. I was told the results would take a few weeks so its a bit of a wait. Have you heard from your gp?

afrikat · 20/10/2020 20:04

Thanks both
Spoke to GP today who has done referral and I am going private so have an appointment next week with gynecologist.
My measurement was 19mm but was due on period next day, chance it could have been that.
Hopefully know a bit more next week

Let us know how you get on. The wait is the worst.

afrikat · 24/10/2020 09:50

Yep, not loving this wait! Thankful for my private insurance though, could be much longer.. Trying to stay away from Google and hopeful that I will get some answers on Tuesday 🤞

Also waiting, long story but Covid delayed. I went private and the gynaecologist I saw managed to get me referred back to see them on the NHS as I don’t have insurance. However, everything on a go slow again now so still waiting and this time been bleeding for 54 days.

Hope you get on ok, @afrikat

WouldBeGood · 24/10/2020 09:53

Not that I’m counting!

afrikat · 24/10/2020 10:28

Hope you get some answers soon, that sounds really tough 😪

Sorry, btw, didn’t mean to hijack, the title caught my eye when I was self pitying this morning 😃

Salamander91 · 26/10/2020 08:04

Thankfully the NHS managed to see me within 3 weeks but the wait for the biopsy results is about a month Sad hope you both get some answers soon

WouldBeGood · 26/10/2020 08:13

I got seen back in February but nothing since. Was referred for a hysteroscopy and biopsy.

afrikat · 27/10/2020 12:27

Saw consultant this morning. She did a biopsy so will get results in a few weeks.

Hope you are all doing ok x

Oh, that’s good @afrikat. Progress!

Salamander91 · 27/10/2020 21:56

@afrikat that's great. I hope you aren't waiting too long x

@WouldBeGood that's terrible it's taking so long. I hope you're seen soon x

Salamander91 · 02/11/2020 11:13

I'm getting my results on the 11th.

WouldBeGood · 02/11/2020 14:44

Fingers crossed @Salamander91

Apparently my appointment will be in December

Salamander91 · 02/11/2020 15:43

Thanks @WouldBeGood I'm glad you're finally getting an appointment!

Watching with interest. Had an ultrasound which showed 20mm lining yesterday. Have had constant bleeding (usually not heavy, but some clots) for weeks before starting norithisterone a week ago. Its not a new thing as I had similar long bleeding sessions last year. This time the pain has been different though. I have googled... Trying to stay positive but Ive been told they’ll probably stick a camera up... apparently that doesn’t need an anaesthetic!

Salamander91 · 14/11/2020 17:13

I had to cancel my app because I had a temperature 😒 I'm waiting for them to send a letter with a new app. Hopefully it doesn't take too long.

Zzzexhaustedzzz · 06/12/2020 17:35

Any update?
I have to have a camera in January.

Rockinghorse2019 · 06/12/2020 19:17

Similar situation spotting / brown blood for about 3 weeks then 2 days of very heavy bleed. Had an ultrasound showed lining if 17mm although did have a very heavy bleed a few days later. Seeing consultant on Wednesday.
I was told I had a thick lining about 5 years ago during an ivf scan - ended up being polyps.

Rockinghorse2019 · 09/12/2020 22:36

Had a biopsy tonight so quite worried. what are other people’s experiences?

Hercules12 · 18/03/2021 21:47

Hi. Just bumping the thread. Recently had a 5 week period followed by 3 days gap before another period. Ended up having 2 emergency blood transfusions. Had a trans vaginal scan today. No fibroids but have thickening of the uterus. Need to wait for gynecology to get in touch with follow up.

Nfpg · 18/05/2021 19:35

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has any positive stories on TTC while diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia?
