Dark patches

Started itching on one side of my labia minora yesterday evening so had a look with a mirror to check all was ok down there and have noticed two dark patches of skin. One itches but the other doesn't. I can't remember the last time I checked down there but they definitely weren't there then.

Upon googling (I know, big mistake) I'm getting vulval melanoma as the most common result. Going to get an appointment with the GP on Monday but in the meantime wanted to ask if anyone else has any experience of this and their outcomes please?

Hello,

I had a similar patch which wasnt itchy but slightly raised, dark and rough. This was on the inside of one my labia Majora. I had a referral to see a consultant as I previously had vin 3 and they removed it with a local anaesthetic which was ok although nippy afterwards. It was tested and found to be vin 2 which is pre cancerous cell changes but they have removed it all and keeping an eye on me.

I won't lie, I was an emotional wreck with it all but it was dealt with really quickly. I would definitely push for a referral. There are lots of other things it could be and lots of them can be treated with creams so fingers crossed it isn't anything to worry about.

I wish I had stood up for myself more as my GP didn't take it seriously the first time.

Best of luck xxx

Thank you so much for your reply. I've been trying not to think about it or stress but the thought of what might have to be removed if it is a problem is scaring me quite a lot.

I will definitely go in with the mindset of refusing to be fobbed off tomorrow.

Glad to hear that yours was sorted x

Hello, how did you get on today? Hope it wasn't too uncomfortable getting checked over.

Hi I couldn't even get an appointment today, could only book a telephone call where I basically told the dr exactly what I told the receptionist and she said she needs to see me so have got an actual appointment for tomorrow afternoon now

Hi just to update, being referred to a gynaecologist.

The dr I saw thinks it is lichen sclerosus but wants the gynaecologist to check.

I've just googled it though and it says it's characterised by white patches and the skin being thinner than normal and I have dark patches with the skin being thicker than normal so I'm not entirely sure how she's reached that conclusion xx
