Heavy bleeding - perimenopause

Hi all
I have been having heavy bleeding for the last three weeks. I have always had heavy periods but they were regular and they were gradually getting lighter (I am now 50) and I thought I was going through premenopause.
Anyway I was fast tracked to a hospital appointment to ST George’s which was cancelled on Friday morning as I was driving to hospital! I have been put on progesterone tablets by my GP to help with bleeding but I am soooo worried as to what’s going on.🥺
I am going to chase this appointment tomorrow as they haven’t rearranged it as yet but I would love to hear other people’s experiences of this type of bleeding. My scan on the NHS isn’t until late October (!) so I am considering going private for the whole thing or asking to be referred to another hospital although that will probably mean another two week wait!
If anyone has any recommendations for a Gynaecologist in South West London or Surrey I would be really grateful (preferably female).
TIA

I had this and it is adenomyosis they reckon from an ultrasound scan. I’m awaiting a hysteroscopy with a view, hopefully, to hysterectomy as I’m sick and fed up of bloody periods!! Pun intended. On hold because of Covid.

I’m the same age as you. It went away after forty days (!) but has returned, albeit light now but every day. Hope you get sorted it’s miserable.

I mean, that’s what it is in my case 😊

Thank you WouldBeGood I think I was diagnosed with this too early this year by a Gynaecologist but when I went back to GP she said it wasn’t necessarily what I had and she wanted to ‘rule out anything more sinister’ - really just want to/need to know so I can get on with sorting it.

They muttered the check for sinister stuff to me too but put the investigation on hold then wanted me to self isolate pre op which o can’t do as I’m a single parent. Going to seek private advice this week.

It’s so frustrating isn’t it? I don’t see what kind of an urgent pathway I’m on tbh - the consultants whole clinic was cancelled as she was off ill! Hope you managed to get everything sorted soon!
