Is this normal? Periods

So for about 2 years now I have suffered with really draining periods. I mean I'm literally bedbound for 2/3days because of the excessive tiredness.

I'm mid 30s, size 10/12 and active (cycle and run a couple times a week). I don't sleep well in the run up to my period usually, maybe an hour a night the week leading up to my period and then period week I am completely gone, everything is effort and I end up in bed (like now!).

I suffered PTSD 2 years ago and thats when my periods became really funny initially they were black and light and twice a month, doctors said it was due to stress. They returned to normal after a few months but I do have anxiety issues still from what happened, if it is related.

Doctors have now put it down to hormones and tell me to rest it out, but its got to the point I feel like 2 weeks out of the month I am really not myself. I have zero energy right now!

My cycle generally starts with the show, a few drops for 2 days then its like a tap being turned on for 2 days then light bleed for 2/3 days. I'm still very regular so at least I know when its coming.

Also in the week before my period starts, my boobs are super sore and I feel sick. The only way to describe it is that early pregnancy morning sickness "i am going to vomit" feeling. I really can't deal with it anymore!

That does not sound normal! The heavy bleeding should definitely be investigated. Do not let them tell you just to sit this out!! I suffered for too long with heavy bleeding due to fibroids and only realised how bad it had got now they’ve been treated and I can actually leave the house without fear of flooding on the first day of my period!

Physical problems cause such symptoms to arise, this is not due to stress. DO not be fobbed off further as you have been (you were told to rest it out?!. This is daft and I would complain about the person who told you that gem of ignorance).

You will need to be persistent in order to get answers. If your GP surgery is unhelpful then I would urge you to register at another GP practice.

As emma writes this should indeed be investigated further. Your quality of life is suffering here and you ought to be seeing a gynaecologist to establish the cause of the heavy bleeding. Endometriosis and fibroids can cause such heavy bleeding to arise.

I suffer with mine.im often anemic. I also lack in vitamin D. Half my life I feel crap. I really do. I get achy ovaries. I get headaches. I bleed and bleed when I'm on. I am exhausted and weak.

Have you had these things checked? Low iron makes you feel the pits. X
