The only really effective medication I've had for very heavy periods has been prescription but I think there is an otc version of tranexamic acid. I have this on prescription with naproxen / mefenamic acid and omeprazole.

Thank you.

The NHS website says you can get tranexamic acid over the counter but I tried a couple of pharmacies who said it's prescription only so that's confusing Confused

Rang 111 for advice, will get a call back within 12 hours. It will probably have settled down by then.

Will try GP ready for next month.

Hope 111 can sort out a phone consultation for you with a doctor who can send an electronic prescription to your nearest open pharmacy.

I was unable to obtain tranexamic acid tablet otc as it is no longer prescribed in this manner. I had to obtain a prescription for this tablet.

The only medication I found that worked overall was northisterone but I would urge you to ascertain the cause of the underlying heavy bleed as well as treat the symptoms. Your GP ought to refer you to a gynaecologist.
