I've been through the menopause, no period for over 2 years and suddenly a coupe of weeks ago a full blown period. Spoke the specialist at the hospital who didn't sound overly worried but said it def needs checking out so in for an invasive scan in a couple of weeks. I know it's likely to be nothing but can't help but panic about all the bad things it could be. Has anyone been through anything similar?

Me! About a month ago. Like you 2 years since last period. Wasn't a full blown period but 2 days of very light pinkish blood and then a week later 2 days of bright red, still quite light though.
NHS were awesome. Saw my gp same day as she wasn't to check nothing visible. Then a transvaginal scan within a week with a consultant gynae appt. also a colposcopy a few days later due to history of cn1 cell change.
Everything came back clear. Just one of those things apparently!

Happened to my mum after 7 years of no periods. Her dad had just died. Everything checked out and was fine, doctors thought it was stress related.

I called the Dr on Wednesday because l have been bleeding for two weeks very little but some fibrous bits and some dark then days later bright red. I’m 52 have been on cerazette for last few years have had the odd bit of spotting over the last couple of years but one day and then nothing for months. Mentioned to GP but was told this could happen. Had ultrasound on Friday and was told that womb lining was too thick, one of my ovaries was shrivelled and she thought l’d gone through menopause. She said it looked smooth and couldn’t see any other blood supply which is good. She’s sent me for an urgent referral to gynaecologist, all the symptoms when reading suggest endometrial cancer. Also had some visual disturbance a year ago and they found out that it was a multi-nodular goitre which had checked in April, luckily all ok. I wonder whether that was a precursor and all down to the menopause? Really worried and can’t stop looking at web although l know it’s not rational!

Think it is quite common. I’m sure it is nothing to worry about. It good you are getting it checked so you can put your mind at rest,

Thanks

Have my hospital appointment tomorrow or should I say later today! Can't sleep as stressing needlessly.I know it's like to be nothing but not helped by hospital letter which said if you have partner we strongly recommend you both attend which got me illogically worried that they were planning ahead for bad news....and I don't have a partner in any case. Hence still up a few hours before my appointment. Such a muppet.

And a huge sigh of relief! Everything checked out OK....just have to get smear test results back but the scans didn't show any nasties.....and apparently my ovaries are perfect which I found hilarious. She thinks it was just my ovaries giving one last go and releasing an egg. God bless my ovaries but that ship has definitely long since sailed.

Don't think I realised quite how worried I'd been until I got out of the hospital and had a little cry of relief.

So glad all is well!

Piddy68 · 20/09/2020 01:08

Thanks. Just got the smear test back and all good. Think I panicked a little cos I lost my best friend to cancer a few years ago and her sister has just been diagnosed and is going through chemo so it hits a little close to home.

I’m glad your test was clear, but so sorry to hear about your friend and her sister x

I'm glad you're ok, and horrified to discover that there's a chance of 'just one more'. I'm going 8-10 months between periods at the moment and am just waiting on that magic year gap. Very disappointed! 🥴
