Late periods/ IVF

I was hoping I may be able to get some advice. We have been trying for a second baby for just over 18 months. Following my first pregnancy I had a copper coil IUD, however I was constantly bleeding with this and it was removed a year later. Since February I have woken up every morning with a dull ache in my sides and my periods are hit and miss. I have a period every 7 or 8 weeks and it is very light. I have had an ultrasound and everything appears to be normal. Even though I don’t have a monthly cycle I have mild period cramping at some point every day. I have noticed I wake up during the night more for a wee. I’m so confused as to what may be wrong. I was due on my period on 4th April and didn’t start until 22nd May. I had a positive pregnancy test but I’m almost certain it was a false positive as it was followed by a period. I had a consultation with the gynaecologist and she doesn’t think I have endometriosis or PCOS. We have also started to consider IVF now as we’re losing hope conceiving naturally. Additionally I’m really worried that my periods will stop altogether. Help please :(

Sounds like it could be hormonal, have you had blood tests to check if you’re ovulating or been charting your BBT? If you aren’t ovulating it may be that something like Clomid could work for you rather than straight to IVF.

Thank you for responding. I haven’t been charting it. I’m due to have blood tests but I’m sure I haven’t been ovulating because I used to get ovulation pains

If you aren’t ovulating but have dull pains I would initially think it could be a cyst, but as you’ve had a scan it rules that out. I think your consultant will try you on something like clomid if you aren’t ovulating.
