Periods getting shorter?

Hi ladies, I just wanted to ask a question about cycle length. I’ve noticed the last few months that my periods are getting shorter. I’ll be 37 in December so feels to early for any kind of perimenopause but I also appreciate it could well be.

I’ve always had a very regular 27 day cycle with a 6 to 7 day period. Last months period only lasted 4 days. It started heavy as normal just ended quickly. This month has only been 3 days? Again, started heavy hardly anything yesterday (day 3) and nothing today. I’ve had a look at my period app and my periods changed at the start of the year to 5 day’s bleeding and 26 days cycle length. Now the last 3 months they are 3 or 4 days bleeding with a 25 day cycle length. I am definitely not pregnant but I do suffer with actions disease, although not currently on any medication.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Perimenopause can last ten years, so not too early at all. It is normal for your cycle to gradually shorten through your life.

Yep. Same happened to me. At 45 my cycles are now around 22 days long with very short bleeding of a few days. I know some people get longer cycles as they age though.

Mine went down to two days when I was about 36. I was worried it was the beginning of menopause as they were really light too. But fell pregnant first ‘go’ at 38 and now (40) enjoy my periods being really light (Mostly) and short.

Does it have any effect on fertility? I’m not planning another child but the thought of having reduced fertility does worry me

I did manage to conceive at 40 after three miscarriages but I had acupuncture to lengthen my cycles. I wouldn’t worry about it too much as it’s really about egg quality and you’re still just about okay at 37. If you do think you want another child I’d crack on with it though.

Me too! I’m 38 and my cycle length has gone from 28 all my life to 25/26. I also spot 4/5 day’s before (only when I wipe) then nothing until period starts. This month I am spotting on day 17 but my breasts hurt too And I had lots of tiny spots - It’s all hormonal. Back to the teenage years Confused

I’m grateful for the short periods and I don’t think I want another baby (I have a toddler) but realisation I’m not getting any younger is a shock to the system 😳

Hi that definitely a sign of peri menopause, mine got shorter and then became very heavy about 4 years ago at 43, I had to have endometrial ablation in the end as they were so heavy, previously very light, I'm 47 now and have been on HRT for a few months to help with hot flushes, sleep problems and palpitations

Yep. 35 was the age I really started to notice the changes and then it’s all downhill sadly 🤣
