Female sterilisation in the UK

Hello,

Has anyone here had female sterilisation (either tubal ligation or bilateral salpingectomy) performed privately in the UK over the past few years?

Can you give any feedback on the process/costs if so, and whether you encountered any discrimination during the process?

I was hoping to get this done on the NHS but given the COVID-19 situation, I doubt it'll be an option any time soon. So, am researching getting it done privately with Spire, Nuffield, etc.

Would be curious to hear from anyone who's managed to have it done on the NHS too...I gather it's a pretty gruelling process.

Thank you :)

I have been sterilised on the nhs 20 years ago . After my 5 DS and I also have a DSS. It as very straight forward just two tiny scars done by keyhole camera and went home the same day . Not complicated at all my sister recommended it to me since she had it done herself and she is a consultant paediatrician .

Does it stop the wild hormones?

I had my done as a day patient. Keyhole surgery just a couple of stitches best thing I did in terms of contraception.
I just asked the gp he referred me think it was probably 6 months or so waiting list. Bob’s your uncle.
Must be 20 years ago now mind.

I just got sterilised using filshie clips under Nuffeild. 32, no kids and cba with the NHS and their run around.

Cost me £6589 including medical insurance, consultant fees, medication etc and a package of follow-up reconstruction surgeries should I have needed them.

@AlphaDalpha no, why would it? The ovaries would need to be removed or altered (like with hormonal bc) for your hormones to change.
