Period woes

I'm sat here, feeling miserable, having once again lost the past few days to my awful cramps, nausea, lack of energy and low mood, caused by my period. My low mood also starts about a week before my period arrives.

I've tried so many different options over the years (now in mid-thirties) and nothing seems to work for me! Oral contraception seems to help for a few months, but then my PMD just seems to get worse - think rage, catastrophising, generally being a very unpleasant person to be around. The copper coil didn't agree with me either.

Not sure what I'm looking for - a bit of a rant really! Does anyone out there have positive stories of finally finding a way to live alongside their periods, rather than it feeling like a monthly battle?!

No advise but I am feeling the same started my period this morning and i am in agony feel sick got the runs after a few days of being bloated and bunged up thankfully working from home today

I came on here to post the exact same question.

I get excruciatingly painful periods and need to take strong painkillers to get Through it. I was on the pill for many years and had two years of not-so-bad periods after I came off the pill but then they came back as bad as ever. I also get very bad PMT.

There must be women out there who have good tips (other than a hot water bottle and raspberry leaf tea) for painful periods? I do feel like half the month is much more of a struggle as a result.

Any advice most welcome FlowersCake

Will try raspberry tea thanks for the recommendation I snapped at dh today probably a bit ott I admit I am snappy and restless but feel drained and shit at the same time. Physically usually start my period ok then it hits me on day 3 but this is from day 1
I am now tearful and full of doom and gloom

I have been to the gp zillions of times Iam peri solution was the pill low corse of sertraline I thought that went well but killed off my sex drive dh said i turned psycho although we were having issues at the time and I have been far more psychotic off the pill because ultimately he was wrong and out of order

Smoothasababy · 09/06/2020 12:54

It sounds like your issues are more on the emotional side so?

For me, it’s the physical pain. I’m on day 3 & still in very bad pain. It can’t be good to be taking painkillers w wry month but it’s the only way to get through the day.

Have you tried evening primrose oil & vitamin B6? According to my GP, if taken consistently, they balance hormones well...

*every month

I was the same as you op.
I had the Mirena coil fitted and it solved all my problems. I know its not fot everyone but it was a godsend for me.

With you OP. I'm just off the phone to an amazing nurse after 3.5 years of seeing GP's and getting absolutely nowhere.

I'm pretty sure I have Endo, got a referral to gynae and naproxen prescribed.

Excruciating pain definitely isn't normal - try phoning your GP's and asking for a nurse x

PipGirl404 · 09/06/2020 13:40

Might be worth trying the Mirena as, like PP, I've heard lots of good things about it for period pain/heaviness etc.

DH and I have been TTC for well over a year so no contraception here !

Smoothasababy · 09/06/2020 19:56

Apparently endo is grossly under-diagnosed all right. A friend of mine had a mild form of it and once she had surgery, she had no pain since...I’ve enquired about it but never got anywhere.

You all have sympathy and hugs.period pain pains are the bane of my life at the moment.
