Can being very overweight cause irregular /stop periods?

I have a bmi of 40 (working on losing weight) and I usually have a cycle between 32 and 36 days. I've now missed 2 periods, it's been 90 days since the beginning of my last period.
I do sometimes have irregular periods but never this delayed. Could this be due to being overweight?
I will ring the Dr's if I've not had anything in a few weeks.
I'm not pregnant

To add, I haven't always been this heavy, I have gained a lot in the past year or two, so that's why I'm wondering if it could be why

It could be pcos, it causes weight gain and irregular periods (either heavy or missed periods followed by long heavy period).
How do you feel otherwise. Do you skin pigmentation, skin tags , cuts behind your neck as all these are signs of insulin resistance which is very common with pcos.
If not pcos then your cycles could be caused by hormonal imbalance also common at your age but honestly weight gain plus period issues are pcos or persistent ovarian cyst.

Forgot to add it could also be low thyroid - if you have regular constipation then it could be thyroid issue. Please visit your GP as all these are manageable conditions. If any of these are your issue then weight loss would not be easy without medication.

Hi OP
Not much advice but I'm going through similar.
I also wondered if it could be weight related.
I'm going to contact GP

Strange you say this as I'm on the mirena coil and haven't had any periods for years. I've lost quite a bit of weight in a short space of time and randomly my periods started last week! No idea of linked. Size 16-18, now 12-14.

Hi Op
Have you made any progress?
I have called GP and I'm being sent for tests.
