Weeks break from pill

Hi all

I normally take my pill without having a break. I finished my pack on Sunday and forgot to take one on Monday, so decided I may as well have the 5 day break and then restart. Since then (3 days) I've had the worst cramps ever, much worse than I've had in the past.

Is this because I don't normally have a break? Do menstrual cramps get worse as you get older? At the moment I feel like I can never have another break again and I do have a fairly high pain threshold.

Is your pill meant to be taken every day with no break? The ones I've had never were, meant to take a 5 day break for your period each month but you could double back your pack ie no break for a holiday. However excessive use of this isn't good! I was on microgynon. My friend is also on this pill but the ones she gets has 5 days of placebo pill so takes a pill every day but 5 in a row are fake to enable the break without forgetting to restart x

Hi @Ginfilledcats thanks for your reply. Yes I've been told that it's absolutely fine to take them continuously by my hospital gynaecologist and also my nurse at my pill check appointments. This means I never have a "period" and miss a lot of the stuff that runs alongside this.

Ah I see. Then yeah I imagine the pains are just because you never take a break. If you're concerned though I would ring the nurse or consultant and ask. Sorry you're in pain! Try a bath/hot water bottle? Xx
