Mirena problems.. please help!

I have had the Mirena coil now for over a year. It's been great, no problems, no periods and I've generally been really happy with it.

About 4 weeks ago I had really bad cramps for two days and it made me check my coil strings because something didn't feel right. I couldn't feel the strings but my cervix was in an awkward position so I decided to wait and try again.

Fast forward to now, I still haven't been able to find them and went to the dr today who also couldn't find/ see them.

She has referred me for an ultrasound to see if the coil is still in place and has told me to assume I have no contraception until I find out.

Obviously I'm really worried now and was wondering whether anyone else has been through similar and what was the outcome?

I had exactly the same. I had mine checked when I had my smear and the nurse couldn't find mine either. I had an ultrasound and its in the right place and doing its job but I was told I might need to have it removed at.the hospital when the time comes. I know its working and I don't need to think about it for a few years yet.

Mine disappeared and the ultrasound revealed it had migrated upwards. Nothing dangerous but i wanted it out and they couldn't find it. I then had it removed in hospital using a procedure i can't remember the name of. Legs in stirrups and a camera inserted, and it was removed. A little odd, but not painful.
