Bit embarrassed but have a wiff from my vagina

Wondering if any of you lovely ladies can help me.

About three months ago I noticed a wiff from my vagina. No discharge or itch or any other sign. It's not a fishy smell it's just a bit of a nose wrinkling odour but not disgusting. It is defiantly coming from inside as I thought maybe I had left a tampon in so had a rummage around and when I took my fingers out the smell was on my fingers Envy ( not envy )

Anyway couldn't feel anything so treated myself for BV and that seemed to do the trick until next month. Now I'm beginning to notice a pattern. Around a week and a half from the end of my period (when I've worked out I'm fertile/ovulating) the smell seems to appear. Lasts a week then goes away for roughly the weekish before my period is due and then I have a normal period.

Just to give details I don't use high perfumed shower gels I use a non perfumed baby soap as I read that was very mild and a flannel. I shower daily and in the evening I wash at the sink. I don't use the soap directly against my skin. I fill the basin and get a lather going with the bar of soap and then use the weak soapy water to wash. Then pat dry, wear cotton pants etc I've never worn underwear under my pjs so plenty oppurtunity for airing lol

Oh should mention I've just had my smear November 2019 and all was good. A couple of years ago I did have an issue of bleeding between my period which I went to the dr about I was giving blood tests and a scan of my stomach and an internal. Basically the dr chalked it up to hormomes and I was put on the pill for 6 months and that seemed to settle everything back into a rhythm again. No issues since. Any ideas ladies??

Sorry about the length of my msg but wanted to give as much detail as possible Smile

How old are you? Possibly start of perimenopause?

When you wash, are you careful to get in all the creases? (sorry to be so personal) I know if I don't get into all the creases and folds it can smell awful.Blush

Hi I'm 35 this year. Yeah I am very careful about that. However the smell is definitely coming from inside

When you say you treated yourself for BV did you take anti biotics?

Northernsoullover · 16/05/2020 10:35

Do you have an IUD of any kind?

Inforthelonghaul · 16/05/2020 10:50

If you didn’t take prescribed antibiotics OP I’d suspect it’s still BV.

midnightstar66 · 16/05/2020 10:57

BV once you have it once can be persistently recurrent and the chemist bought treatments rarely get rid of it completely, just get it under control so it doesn't smell for a bit til it's multiplied again. You can however purchase the antibiotics from online pharmacies

Allyg1185 · 16/05/2020 11:03

Sorry I should have said I've used the pessry gels and got the antibiotics from an online pharmacy. No I've never had an IUD

Probably going to have someone tell me I'm grim but I don't use soap at all down there, I usually have a bath with gentle bubble bath in and just wash with the water in the bath around my privates, I think maybe you should see a doctor and also cut out the use of soap and see how you get on xx

WhoWhatWheree · 16/05/2020 11:49

Have you been checked for any STDs? Sometimes that can cause a smell and irregular bleeding.

Lilliput · 16/05/2020 12:03

I think you are probably over washing. The vagina is very 'self cleaning', washing in the shower and then washing at the sink in the evening is probably too much.
I'm a midwife so know a bit about vaginas.
You could ask your practice nurse if you could do a self obtained vaginal swab to be sent off.
Gp surgeries are still open.

Allyg1185 · 16/05/2020 12:07

Would water be enough? No I've not been checked for stis but I've certainly not cheated and been with my hubby for years and he has been faithful without a doubt

There’s a very long thread a day or two ago on this very subject.

Allyg1185 · 16/05/2020 12:17

Oh was there I didn't see it. Can anyone remember the name of the thread?
