Period smells really bad - sorry if tmi

Hi, I had my period as normal this month but now it's coming to the end it's started to smell really bad. I don't know how to describe it other than it is a very strong and unpleasant smell. I haven't used tampons in years so it couldn't be a stuck tampon.

I'm wondering if it could be some kind of infection? I didn't have any sign of infection before my period, and the first couple of days it was normal.

I would ask my doctor - never had this issue and if I had, I would be worried about an infection too.

Thanks I'll give me gp a call then. I was hoping I could deal with it alone and avoid the embarrassment.

Do you use disposable pads? Sometimes they actually make it smell more/unpleasant?

Yes I use disposable pads Sarah. I've used them for years and never had anything like this before though. I've ordered a bacterial vaginosis test online. If it comes back clear and there's no symptoms of anything then maybe it could just be the pads.
