What's wrong with my periods?

I'm 27 and have always had regular, short, and light periods with minimal cramps. Average cycle was 28 days.

In Jan-Feb, my cycle lasted 54 days. In March, it was 23. In April, it was 49.

My recent period has seen me bleed for 16 days and has varied from very light to very heavy. No cramps at all. On Wednesday night I was passing large clots (the width of a lemon) and I was told to go for blood tests on Thursday.

I've had 3 BFNs (2 before period arrived and 1 on Thursday) and GP started me on medroxyprogesterone on Thursday afternoon. Bleeding stopped on Friday night but now it's back again and I'm fed up.

I'm really anxious because I'm convinced there's going to be something really wrong with me. There's loads of history of cervical cancer, early menopause, etc in my distant and immediate family. Was also wanting to start TTC no 2 soon.

Does anyone relate or have a clue what this could be? Will phone to see if results are in tomorrow but I doubt it. I'm tearing my hair out. :(

It could be anything from something really trivial to serious so you need to breathe and not get ahead of yourself. The pattern of your cycle indicate you have high estrogen and low progesterone issue. It is quite common in perimenopause but with your age the issue simply could be an ovarian cyst. We all make cyst in every cycle in first part of cycle and estrogen increases , in luetal phase after ovulation the cyst burst and starts releasing progesterone. May be in your case the cyst did not burst and the body kept producing estrogen with no progesterone to negate it which increases your uterine lining thickness and now the thickness is shedding and falling in clots. Your body has low progesterone and you will need progestin tablets to control the bleeding which GP has already referred to you. Wait for your tests, you might need ultrasound as well. Chances are your body will correct by itself and if there is a cyst it will also go away by itself. If not then doctors will sort it out .
