Recurrent thrush? Any advice ?

Hi. So I have never had thrush before my last pregnancy, since my son was born last year I’ve had it return almost every month. I’ve been to GP who have took numerous swabs and gave treatment but this only takes it away for a few weeks before it would return again. I’m currently 4 months pregnant now and it’s returned again, is there anything I can use/take over the weekend until GP opens on Monday? Also any home remedies that would help keep this at bay? I drink plenty of fluids, have a pretty balanced diet, keep fizzy drinks to a minimum etc. My husband has been treated also, though he showed no symptoms. But it just keeps happening and it’s driving me mad. Thanks!xx

You can buy medication from a pharmacy for thrush, you can even buy it online if necessary

@Luzina is it safe while pregnant though?

cotton underwent, not tight clothing, canestan cream, simple soap.

you can apply natural yoghurt over night.

I also used to suffer with terrible recurrent thrush, every month, which coincided with my period, great!

I worked out that it was my body's way of saying it was out of balance. I started eating more live Yogurt, less sugary foods, which only feed it and I've honestly not had a breakout for years.

Wear skirts and no jeans if you can or lose stuff round the crotch area.

Shower rather than bath

I have had the same problem and same cycle of GP visits since my son was born two years ago. Never had it once before then !

I have just been given 6 month course of tablets which have done the trick and I feel amazing after 2 months of them.

However, I read the instructions and it said not to use them when trying to conceive so can't imagine they're safe to use when pregnant. It's called fluconazole.

Honestly I was at the point of crying at the thought this will never go away but I feel great now. Maybe something to consider when you've had your baby xx

I'm on Keto and the lack of sugar has stopped my recurring bouts of thrush. If I lapse, you can bet I'll get it. Don't use any soap - just wash with water. As others say, drink lots of water, wear cotton underwear and live cultures may help too.

Thanks for your advice ladies I’ll definitely try your ideas!

@pinkflamingo86 it’s frustrating, once is enough for anyone but when it keeps coming back! It’s strange how having a baby set it off when it’s never happened before. I didn’t have it throughout my last pregnancy so thought I wouldn’t this time but I’ve been wrong :( . I had fluconazole also, but only for 3 weeks, this did keep it away for longer though but it returned again eventually. I’ll speak to the doctor on Monday and see if there’s anything that can safely be used. Thank you!xxx
