Heavy period every other month.

I have noticed over the last 6 months that every other period is very heavy. I'm regular between 24-26 days and have always had heavy periods with clots. I'm noticing that the heavy periods are getting heavier but every other month I have a manageable one. I'm 47 so probably in the peri-menopause stage but I can't work out why they are following this odd pattern.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I had exactly this. It's peri and HRT is a lifesaver.

Why does it follow such a consistent pattern is it to do with which ovary releases the egg?

I'd rather not take HRT if I can help it as I have a family history of breast cancer. I also have a family history of late menopause. My mum, sisters and grandmother all were having regular periods until they were 57 so I could be like this for quite a while!

Yes mine were doing the same. I had a mirena coil fitted a few months ago and they have been much lighter (this month was hardly anything)
