Experiences of Decapeptyl

I am starting a six month course of Decapeptyl next week to try and shrink a very large fibroid before surgery to remove it. Although my consultant has barely told me anything, I have researched this medication online and have read so much about it (including how it is given to male sex offenders to curb their desires!) However, nothing beats hearing people's real life experiences of it as opposed to reading medical websites. I understand there are some horrible side effects, but I think the more I know in advance, the better I will cope. So I would really appreciate hearing from any of you who have first hand experience and please don't hold back!

Hello 👋🏻
I have been on decapeptyl injections since Jan 2020 in prep for surgery that I was to receive in March and was cancelled for obvious reasons! I have continued with the injections and after a recent scan, my fibroid has now shrunk so well that my doc is happy for to ttc. I made still need to have the surgery if pregnancy still doesn't happen.
I found the injections to be fine. The only side effect I had were the hot flushes! So unbearable, especially at night. I got give hrt for it though and it made such a difference! Prior to the Injections my periods were horrendously heavy so I was glad to not have to deal and worry about them for a few months. The first month on the injection you will probably have a period the same or heavier (mines was heavy) after that though there should be nothing. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions Smile

Used it as one of the drugs I used during IVF. I didn't notice any side effects. I don't remember what my sexual desire was like at the time but doing ivf felt mentally very consuming to me so I might just not have noticed.

I'm so sorry I hadn't realised you guys had replied to my post. It seems like such a long time ago that I posted it. Thank you very much for telling me about your experiences. I am actually having the last injection next week. I have been having some hot flushes but that's about it. And I have had a scan and the fibroid has reduced from 11cm to 8cm which is good. I now just have to wait and see about the surgery.
