Itchy vagina

I would be grateful if someone could help as feeling quite miserable at the moment.

My vagina itches - not the external vulva, it itches inside. I thought it was thrush so took an over the counter tablet over a week ago but nothing has improved, infact it feels worse.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this aside from thrush? Sad

Sorry no help, I was like this when pregnant- all Swab tests came back negative. I assume it was hormonal but I did cut out sugar which may have helped or just been a placebo.

Could be the bath/shower gel you're using, or laundry detergent. It's possible to start to reacting to something you've never had problems with before. Also, when it's hayfever season, if my throat, eyes, nose etc are itching you can guarantee I am itchy down there too. It's part of my hayfever reaction. Maybe that's a possibility.

Is there any discharge? Also if you're having sex did you get your partner to take the thrush medication because I'm sure it can be passed back and forth like that.

My first sign of thrush is an actual itch up my vagina but as you’ve not seen an improvement, maybe a fungal infection? Either way I’d probably ring the GP

HelloItsmeAgain1 · 06/05/2020 18:56

Could be bacterial vaginosis. But call the gp as they're doing consultations over the phone and can prescribe something.

ChablisandCrisps · 06/05/2020 19:08

Yeah defo call your surgery, they can prescribe other stuff to try and if no joy arrange for swabs to be taken.

How old are you OP? It can be linked with vaginal dryness if you are peri-menopausal.

Grasspigeons · 06/05/2020 19:12

This wont be a popular answer but worms can also cause itching there.

ChablisandCrisps · 06/05/2020 19:36

@Grasspigeons is absolutely right they can! I forgot this, took DD2 to the docs age 5 for persistent itchiness and was told likely worms. 2 doses of ovex and all clear.

SunbathingDragon · 06/05/2020 19:40

Worms was also my first thought.
