HELP Smear test (positive HPV but normal pap)

I recently had my first smear test done, and got a call today to say my smear was normal but I tested positive for HPV. Nurse said that they checked the cells under a microscope and that they looked normal and negative for anything bad. She told me not to worry but I can't help but worry now. Anyone experience the same thing and what does it actually mean????

Many many people are HPV positive (those too old to have had the vaccine) . In itself it's nothing to worry about. Make sure you have regular smears.

You should have another smear in 12 months, to see if you've cleared the hpv. If you get the same result, another smear 12 months later. If the same again (3 positive hpv results) you'll get invited for a colposcopy - nothing scary, just a more in depth look at your cervix.

Please don't be alarmed, nearly everyone has hpv at some point. Just keep to your smears as scheduled.

yes, totally normal! don't worry a thing, just go to the test. The UK has the best system of keeping things in check and you are absolutely safe. I used to worry about it too but educated myself and it gave me all the confidence i need to keep smiling about any smear test result I get because there is always something to do about potential changes. And you haven't got any so all groovy!

I had this a couple of years back, made sure I looked after my health etc and was all clear 12 months later
