Pixie cup? (tmi)

I've been a menstrual cup user for 12 years, and have always gotten on well with them. My periods have gotten a bit weird over the last few months, so a bit irregular, and heavier than normal, which seems like the beginning of menopause.
Anyway, I replaced my mooncup with a pixie cup because they hold a bit more on my heavy days, but I'm finding the insertion impossible! I do the fold, but once it's in, I can't get it to unfold! I end up digging around for ages trying to get it to sit right. Today I gave up and went back to my old mooncup.
Is it me? Is there a trick to inserting these that's different to the mooncup?
