Has anyone had a corpus luteum cyst?

I was hospitalised last Saturday with suspected appendicitis. I was in severe pain and it was very scary. The pain subsided that night and I was scanned in the morning. It turned out to be a corpus luteum cyst that had exploded, all that was left was the "shell" of it. It was only 2.5cm but caused a lot of pain.

I feel back to normal now, although my period was due last Sunday. Ive read some conflicting advice and some say you may not have a period after this type of cyst. Does anyone know?

Thanks

Its a very common cyst that just stsys after you ovulate..ive had it lots of times but no apparent pain..

Think its fairly normal and disappears after some time.

You've got my mind racing now, I had one of these when I was pregnant, had totally forgotten about it until I saw your post! I too was hospitalised with pain so bad I was vomiting, it subsided after about 12 agonising hours but they never found a cause. Wonder if it was that. My periods came back a couple of months after baby so I guess it just went away on its own.

@Hannsmum that's right, it's essentially the "shell" of the egg you ovulate. Usually it wrinkles and decays and comes out in your period painlessly - but in my case it filled with blood and pus and exploded.

@LunaL0veg00d I bet that was it! They're even more common in pregnancy. Awful isn't it?

I've had this a few times and it has ranged from excruciating to mild aching.
