Hello,

I just began taking Yasmin Birth Control. I’m 40 years old. I’m taking it for acne and for prevention. I’m praying this does not effect my libido/orgasms. Those who take it, has it effected you in any way? Any other side effects? If so, when did you notice them?

Hoping for positive stories too!!

I started Yasmin start of last year, purely for my skin as my husband has had the snip.

My skin got really bad at first, I had random spots popping up all over the place. I think I am very sensitive to hormones. Anyway it got slightly better but I ended up being referred to a derm at the end of last year as I was still get cystic breakouts around my time of the month.
I used to have a high sex drive and the pill has completely killed it.

Everyone reacts differently so fingers crossed it works better for you!

Sorry to say I absolutely hated it. Killed my sex drive affected mood badly too. This was done years ago though so could be different now.

I went on it years ago to sort my skin before my wedding. My skin has never looked more lovely and in a way that was saddening as I saw how nice it could be without acne and the usual oil slick and I have yet to achieve similar having stopped. I don’t remember it affecting my libido or mood swings and happily I didnt gain weight on it.

Thank you, ladies. Ugh I do not want my libido to drop! Does anyone remember how long it takes for the side effects to kick in?

Puddlelane, why did you go off of Yasmin?

I went off the Yasmin to conceive a baby (a long process as we experienced infertility and miscarriages) and have not returned to it since as realised subsequently that it clearly wasn’t needed for contraception (!) and I didn’t feel my desire for nice skin was enough of a reason to use it for that alone if that makes sense.

Loved Yasmin! Only pill I got on with. Lovely skin. No issues with libido or weight gain!

Mumlove5 · 10/03/2020 23:27

That must have been really hard, Puddlelane. I hope it all worked out in the end🙏🏻

Thanks, Naive. Did you go off of the pill?

Thanks lettersbyowl. I really hope it works out. I’ll give it 3-6 mos. If it’s bad, I’ll try something else.

I had a blood clot in brain caused by yasmin called a CVST. I was 30, fit, healthy and dont smoke. Got a bad headache out of the blue for 2days then collapsed. I wouldnt take it, especially given your age as its higher risk for side effects.

Puddlelane123 · 16/03/2020 19:02

Crikey @Blondebear123 that sounds awful! Really hope you recovered without long term effects.

@Mumlove5 - happily yes, it was a long ‘journey’ but I was blessed with two dc who are my whole world and well worth the wait.
