Hysteroscopy booked for potential ablation - contraception question.

I had a Mirena fitted last June, which my body, after many severe cramps and clots, finally got rid of last month (I've already posted about this).
I had an appointment with gynae this morning and they have booked me in for a Hysteroscopy within the next two months and if all is the right size then they will do an ablation.
I really had no idea what an ablation was long term. Lots of sites say about what happens during, but I didn't realise it would mean (if it works) no bleeding! But, there is still the risk of pregnancy so I need to decide what to do about that.
I did read that they can do sterilisation along with the ablation. Has anyone had this done, and if so, how did it go? Can you tell me a bit about your experience? Many thanks.

Still waiting for my appointment but this is the current state of things.

I had a depo provera injection a couple of months ago. First period due and nothing! Thought bliss! hope this is the start of things to come. Oh no, don't be daft! Month two and I have now been bleeding for 31 days. Some days very light, just passing a small clot, others, huge floods and clots and many changes of clothing.

I phoned gynae Monday and they aren't sure what has happened but I should have been seen before now, it's been six months since my video call which was meant to be the hysterscopy clinic. Anyway, I should have my appointment in November. I really hope so as I am so tired and feeling really quite tears a lot of the time. Might be due to lack of sleep, or hormones.

I’m having an ablation as soon as they can get a theatre slot and will be having my tubes removed at the same time. My surgeon insisted on it.

@Dmtush my appointment is just to see if they can do an ablation. Why were you recommended to have your tubes tied? Is that for the contraceptive side or for anything else? I'm at the stage I just want everything whipped out and be done with it all. I'm 49 this year, my three kids are adults. I think my childbearing and rearing years are over.

Contraceptive for me as I’m still in my 30s. They’re removing them completely in my case. I’m also having treatment for endometriosis so they’re in there anyway.

I had a sterilisation and ablation at the same time. (Ablation was to treat serious bleeding, multiple reasons).

I still bleed but no where near the severity that there was before, not to put you off but you may still have periods.

Finally had my hysterscopy today. Not as painful as expected, even the biopsy, but I was quite teary beforehand and feel a bit shaky now. I guess it was having to be so exposed. I had a chair with those leg rest things and I know they help the dr by being in the best position, but they make me feel like I am vulnerable. The nurses and the drs (one was a trainee) we all wonderful, and thankfully, all women. It is strange being able to see inside your womb though!
I have had a Zoladex injection and will have another one next month with the hope they have an ablation in the new year, with a polyp removal and the fibroid having a shave.
If that doesn't work, then we will be talking about hysterectomy.
I have been given some hrt pills just in case I get some menopause symptoms, but not that keen on taking them.

I had a general anaesthetic for my hysteroscopy you're very brave xx

Not, brave, just how they do it here I guess. I did cry beforehand. I think as I'd been waiting so long to get this sorted, and then the fact I was going to have to expose myself to so many people. Just too much. My dh noticed when he picked me up afterwards I wasn't myself. The nurses and the drs were great, I just don't deal with this sort of thing well. Still, I have it to look forward to again in the new year, with added polyp removal, fibroid shaving and ablation yay

Good luck xxx and take it easy for a few days

I had a sterilisation and an ablation at the same time, with tube clips. I was about 38. I’m now 40 and on the waiting list for a hysterectomy as it did not work for my fibroids and just started zoladex myself today. I was glad I got sterilised as it just took away another thing to worry about! And they are already doing the ablation anyway

hopeishere · 12/12/2020 23:10

My gynae wants to do a scope and fit a mirena under sedation. I'm dreading it.

longtompot · 14/12/2020 14:10

You'd have thought with having both a depo injection an a zoladex injection, I wouldn't be having periods. This weekend has been hell. I was up at 5am and 7am both Saturday and Sunday mornings. I wanted to go to bed early Saturday night, but was constantly flooding and passing massive clots. I've gone through three packs of nighttime pads since Friday, in a lot of pain which is going down my legs. Quite often I've just sat on the loo just pouring blood :(
I had a couple of iron infusions last month, but today on my dog walk I just felt out of breath like I did before having it. I am so tired of this. I can't plan anything and constantly having to wear a pad of one sort or another is just uncomfortable.
Sorry, just having a whinge. Just tired and fed up.

Whinge away! For me it's the uncertainty and the times I take a "risk" and go out without a pad and then start to feel the flow!!

Menora · 20/12/2020 23:17

I’m also having a period on zoladex! 😡
Have you tried tena lady pants? They were a game changer to be honest, they contain a lot more of it
