Night sweats at 36

Hi there.

I'm 36 and have horrible night sweats and demented dreams 3-4 days before each period. They are disruptive and make me feel drained the next day. I have tried new pjs and swapped the mattress. It helped a bit.

I didn't get this at all until early 30s but seems to be getting more constant. Is it worth a GP appointment to assess cause? I also take ssris which list sweats as a side effect but there is correlation with my period.

Thanks and if there are similar threads I can peruse please let me know.

Yes definitely go to the GP. It does sound hormonal but it is worth getting checked out anyway.

Goostacean · 24/02/2020 20:27

Night sweats can be a symptom of lymphoma. Get checked.

Place marking as I also started getting these, again just before I come on my period around a year ago (I’m 40) i sympathise! My migraines are getting worse too.

I've had this on and off for years. Since my late 20s I think. 15 years later still no sign of menopause and I've had 2 children in the mean time in case that's what you're worried about. I'm guessing after all this time it's unlikely to be lymphoma either - it never actually occurred to me it could be something to really worry about tbh.

I’d recommend acupuncture. It can sort things without pills or hormones. But it’s dear, around £50 per treatment.

Yorkshirelass04 · 24/02/2020 20:46

Thanks for the replies.

I think it's pretty common but I will get to the GP when I can.

Any idea if it's perimenopause?

Also have you had any luck with acupuncture?

It does sound like peri. That’s the stage I am at and why I got my night sweats sorted with acupuncture. It’s starting up again though so I think it’s time to get another treatment. It helped my heavy frequent periods too. Balanced them out to three day bleeds, which is fine for my age.

GPs are useless when it comes to hormones. Apparently all their tests will tell you are if you are not yet having periods, having them, or finished having them (whatever those terms are). That can’t work out what hormones are overdoing things and which are under the levels they should be for ones age. You have to go abroad to find a doctor that understands that. Disappointing.

I have the exact same story as you @Teateaandmoretea

17 years of night sweats. Tested four times for lymphoma. Have had kids since and still get night sweats but no sign of menopause in bloods yet.

I get this have done for 3 years or so. I'm 42. High strength Evening Primrose Oil Supplements have really worked for me. Stopped taking them for a fortnight and the sweats came back with a vengeance. Went back to them, sweats stopped. Might be worth a try?
