Breast Pain- any ideas? I’m worried

For about 2 days I’ve had incredibly painful shooting pains in one breast, towards my nipple. It reminds me of the pain you get when you first start breastfeeding.

I’ve stopped googling because it’s worrying me. If I still have it Monday I’ll try and get a gp appointment. I’ve never had anything like this before, ever.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be? Even if it’s just bullshit can you tell me so I stop worrying.

Not sure if this is directly relevant but I had generalised breast pain and a lump that turned out to be a cyst, had it drained.

Breast surgeon recommended taking evening primrose oil as some women say it may help breast pain, but said there was no scientific basis

Got some, tried it, I now have very little pain, so it has worked out.

Thank you, I’ve been taking ibuprofen but obviously that’s not a long term solution. I’ll try EPO

I'm large of boob and managed to roll over on mine so it was basically folded in half. Really hurt for a couple of weeks. Practice nurse said it was bruised. Any chance you've done something similar?

BitOfFun · 15/02/2020 21:32

I think it's important to book a GP appointment. We tend to ignore anything that's not an obvious lump, but breast issues can have lots of different signs.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 15/02/2020 21:35

They’re not particularly big, I’m fat but the boobs aren’t where I carry it (unfortunately!). That’s not to say I haven’t knocked it though. I don’t remember doing anything.

Thank you- I will go and see the doc. I’m worried though. I’m an anxious person anyway and this is tipping me.

We all worry, and it's unpleasant. It will be alright in the end, and if it's not alright, it's not the end.

I don't think shooting pains are a common sign of, well, you know.

Although I have no medical expertise, I'd be wondering if it's an abscess. Which would need to be diagnosed and treated quickly, so seeing your GP asap is a good idea.

Princessdebthe1st · 15/02/2020 23:03

Dear OP,
Do see your GP ASAP. I went to the doctors with mild shooting/stabbing pain in one breast that had gone on for a couple of weeks. I thought it was most likely a cyst but was referred to the one stop breast clinic and was diagnosed with breast cancer. The only symptom I had was the pain. Whilst it is unlikely to be anything serious, if it is cancer the early diagnosis is vitally important. I have finished my treatment and am well now.

BitOfFun · 15/02/2020 23:40

Yes, Princess. Whereas it's not a common symptom at all, it can be. I know I had it, and I ignored it. It may have been NOTHING, but I wish I hadn't.

I did a deep clean of the bedroom last week. Pulled out all the furniture on my own including the heaviest bed in the world. My boob hurt the next day. Have you been doing any heavy work?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/02/2020 10:04

Not feeling as reassured as I’d hoped Shock

I haven’t had the pain this morning, both are just a bit tender. That could be a bit physiological though, I’m feeling a bit protective of them!
