Ovarian and Fallopian Cysts

Hi friends,

I'm new to the group so I'm posting for the first time really.

It has recently been picked up on an ultrasound scan and transvaginal examination that I have a cluster of small lumps (likely cysts) on my ovary along with 1 larger cyst. Although my doctor didnt say much about my results from the scans hes said its likely cysts but they want to rule out that its not cancerous growth so is referring me to Gynaecology (which really scares me as I've never had any health issues and now at 35 and childless with the hopes of getting pregnant... THIS HAPPENS! :'(

Anyways, yes I'm panicking a little but just hoping that its nothing too serious and that its treatable or will go away by itself. But can anyone tell me if they've ever had this issue and how its been solved.

My symptons were as follows:

  1. For about 2 weeks before my period I often bloat intensely and fel heavier/puffier everywhere. My stomach pops out quite a bit and its quite uncomfortable.

  2. a couple of days before my period I experience an excruciating sharp continuous pain between the V of my ribcage and above my belly button. I assumed this was acid reflux of maybe gastritis as it lasted a couple of days.

  3. i then come on my period which is fine. Usually lasts about 3 days and are always on time. I get cramping which is bearable after a couple of nurofens but my lower abdomen experiences slow sharp pains every so often, almost like contractions. They will last about 10 to 15 seconds then go away. An hour later I'll get the same sharp intense pain and it will go away over and over again. this used to last only 2 or 3 days. This time however, it lasted about a week and I had blood tests and the ultrasound and internal examination where they found the lumps that they say are likely cysts. My blood tests showed that 8 months ago my bloods were completely fine (i had tests done for something else) but this time my red blood cells have shrunk slightly.

  4. 3 weeks on, I dont have the sharp intense pains anymore. When i have a bowel movement or need to pee I'll feel a little discomfort as if something is pressing and causing a little pain whilst things are travelling through my intestines or urinary tract.

has anyone ever experienced this and if so, what was the diagnosis? what was the outcome? has there been any way to treat it or overcome this? will this affect my chance of conceiving?

Panicked but keeping hopeful

Sarah x

Hi Sarah,

I had one of my ovaries & a tube removed and went onto conceive.
I have had 'complex' cysts which when removed turned out to be benign.
In my experience, removal of the ovary & subsequently cysts from the other, never affected conceiving for me
Good luck!

Thank you for getting back to me, it's really been worrying me. I'd say over the past couple of years I've noticed a little more hair growth on my chin and neck area too and I may be jumping the gun here but I'm thinking it's possibly related to the cysts they've discovered. The pain doesn't happen during every period (or after), I can go a fair few periods where there's non of the symptoms in my previous post and then it'll flare up randomly a few months down the line. So odd. I just want it sorted, it's so draining having to get internally examined over and over. x
