2 week breast clinic referral

I went to see my gp as I noticed a lump in my breast. Also there is thickening in the same area (thickened area has been there for at least 6 months).

Dr felt the area and said she will refer me to see a specialist. I would get an appointment within 2 weeks. She said she is putting me down as suspected cancer so i get seen within 2 weeks otherwise I'd have to wait ages to be seen.

This has really worried me, especially since I didn't go to get the thickened area on my breast checked earlier. Why would they send me for a 2 week appointment and put it down as suspected cancer if she thought it wasn't serious? I'm so scared now! Is this usual to do this even when not urgent??

All breast lump referrals are put as through as a two week wait in my hospital. It’s routine that they are put on a 2WW, so don’t panic! Our testicular scans are also done on a two week wait. It’s just those areas are done that way. don’t panic! Some things are just seen quicker..
post menopausal bleeding are 2WW, abdominal bloating in post menopausal women are 2WW, it’s just the way some things are.
Don’t worry about it. Personally I’d be concerned if they didn’t initially see you within 2 weeks!

In the same boat now. Found a lump in breast when period almost finished. Very sure it wasn't there when my period started.

Went to gp and she didn't want to assure me. Said it felt like a cyst jut she cant say as she has been suprised in the past.

Saw her on Tues breast clinic called me to come next week Wed. Scared stiff honestly

Hope it all goes well. I'm going on the 10th Feb and feeling so anxious and worried!

I have just been through because of several very close female relatives having had treatment for breast cancer. And my GP found a thickened area.

Don’t be scared. Be pleased that you’ve had swift referral.

I was seen within two weeks and had a consultant do a manual examination ( much more thorough than I can ever do!), then I was sent through for a detailed mammogram 4 photos taken. Then I had an ultrasound by another consultant of the breast where my GP found the thickening.

No evidence of cancer or the pre-cancer condition, DCIS (which needs more than a mammogram to pick up).

I have been given a big form to fill out with the details of all breast, ovarian and prostate cancer for 2 generations and that will determine whether I get referred to Generic Services for further screening and testing.

So I seem to be the lucky one who’s dodged the genetic bullet (so far).

I had all of this done in a single appointment at my local hospital which is also a teaching hospital attached to an excellent medical school at a top research university. We are lucky that the NHS is a health service aAND a research organisation.

And I can remember the days when women’s health was ignored and underfunded and under- researched. Where women past menopause (as I am) we’re considered dispensable or hysterical or both.

So please don’t be too anxious. You’re being seen rapidly and hopefully by people as expert and experienced as I saw recently.

And goddess bless the NHS.

Just came back from the breast clinic after nagging the referrals for an earlier appointment.

Saw the consultant who immediately told me it felt like a cyst nothing to worry about but said he had to send me for a scan to be sure

They did a scan and the lady said its a lipoma.and shes certain it is but if i want to do a biopsy im more than welcome.

But she said if it was her she would leave it and watch it but shes satisfied its a lipoma.

Im very happy with the news but now thinking if i should have done a biopsy 😕

Busymummy50 · 03/02/2020 23:59

So glad to hear it went well Hannsmum. I'm still freaking out, waiting for my appointment next Monday but hoping time would slow down! Found another lump in the same breast and left breast feels more lumpy and soft than right breast so worti3d more now....

Must be hard to make the decision whether to have a biopsy. Perhaps do some research online before deciding?

I was offered a biopsy even though consultant was sure I had a fibroadenoma. I took it, I felt it was better to be 100% (in my head). It wasn't the nicest experience but over in seconds and everything was clear. It gave me extra reassurance. I guess you could ask to have it still? Remember that they know what they're looking for and I'm sure they would have insisted on biopsy if there was any doubt. It's such a stressful experience.

Hannsmum · 04/02/2020 23:11

Thanks Busymummy50 and TheFormidableMrsC. I really wanted to go for the biopsy but she said its 2 weeks to wait for the turnaround. That would absolutely kill me.

I was almost doing it but she showed me the lump on ultrasound, checked blood flow and all.when i left there i checked online for breast lipoma pics and cysts/fibroadenomas and the lipomas i saw online looked like what i saw on the scan so was quite reassuring.

Though ive been told to keep monitoring and they will send the scan pics to a virtual clinic who will review and probably get in touch (😏whatever that means..i asked what they do but i guess i was too happy to get out of there i wasnt even listening).

Busymummy50 im keeping my fingers crossed for you.im sure it's nothing. Pls keep us updated.

Thinking of you through till Monday. Honestly i know that feeling.ive been there loads of times.only once 10yrs ago was i diagnosed with fibroadenoma and biopsied.
Other times were just prominent breast tissue when scanned

Hugs
