To be sterilised or not

Questions1988 · 30/01/2020 00:14

I'm currently 32 weeks with my 2nd child. 31 years old. Definitely don't want anymore children.
Just looking for stories from people who have had it done. Good and bad I suppose I need both sides.
I don't really fancy having to go on anything hormonal again just spent the last 6 years on the pill

I had it done at 27 a year after my second child was born. I'm 47 now and it's one of the best things I've ever done.

@aquamarine1029 is it best to wait that long? Do you think you could have coped with recovery and having a baby?

Having your tubes tied during delivery is not recommend. The recovery after the op was a breeze.

If I had had it done when my 2nd was a couple of months old it would have been fine. It's an easy procedure.

I was sterilised during my caesarian with my second (planned). I had a complete ligationwhere the tubes are cut and burned closednot the clips. I've since done some research, and of tubal sterilisations this is the most effective for lifetime use. As you're relatively young, I would strongly recommend that you get a partial or total salpingectomy (ie cutting your tubes), the clips can have as much as a 20% long term failure rate.

Having shared that with you, I bloody love being sterile. It's SO GOOD not to have to worry about it, and I've not had any ill effects. I loathed being on the pill, and had no libido, so having my own hormones is much better for me. I also like knowing (bleak thought, but one that I hand when thinking about this) that if I am raped I won't bear my rapist's child.

I would prefer the most effective permanent one, if they would do that. I wasn't supposed to have a 2nd child lol so definitely not anymore! My partner has 2 as well.

I plan on saying if I end up in a c section for whatever reason I'd definitely want it done then. If not I'll just have to try arrange it soon as I can afterwards.
