Ovarian cyst

Does anyone have experience with ovarian cysts, I've been told mine is 5.3cm wide. Waiting for another scan, 3months after the first to see how it changes. They said it might just go away on its own but I know that's not the case as the pain from it has been there for years. I assume they'll have to take it out, but what does that mean & what will it result in? I'm 34, haven't had children, and my grandmother died of ovarian cancer : /

I had one that was picked up on ultrasound for something else which was a similar size and it had gone at the follow-up appointment so don't despair and don't assume that's what the pain is due to as that could be something else. Given your family history especially, if it hasn't gone then I would expect they'll want to remove it. Removing the cyst doesn't necessarily mean they remove the ovary www.nhs.uk/conditions/ovarian-cyst/

I have one that measured 15cm that was found during alot of pain in early pregnancy. Thankfully mine went away on its own.

If yours hasn't gone away on its own I imagine that may suggest removing it

I had an ovarian cyst removed at the end of October.
I had a complete hysterectomy and my appendix removed and they repaired a hernia on the way out!
I actually had 3 cysts, (one was attached to the hernia) and one on each Overy.
The biggest weighed 50lb....
I lost 3 stone in 5 hours 😮😆
