Hysteroscopy - can they really do everything in 30 minutes?

Got a letter today for my hysteroscopy appointment. My GP referred me for my very heavy periods, said they could put in a Mirena at the same time if I wanted.

I then had an appointment with a gynaecologist who did an ultrasound, which showed a thickened womb lining. He thought there were polyps too. He also did a biopsy which came back normal but still advised the hysteroscopy and Mirena.

My letter for the hysteroscopy appointment says I “may” have a hysteroscopy if an examination shows I have a thickened womb lining. I already know I do! No mention of having the Mirena fitted. I’m also hoping they might be able to remove any polyps during the procedure.
It says the consultation time will be around 30 minutes.

Is this just a standard letter they send out to everyone or should I check they know I want the Mirena when I phone to confirm the appointment?

I'd ring and check but the mirena shouldn't take long if they're already in there! I'm having one in a couple of weeks to take my mirena out at the same time (it's not working for the bleeding and the strings have gone awol!) but haven't had a letter yet to compare what it says.

Thanks I’ll ask them when I phone to confirm the appointment.
Good luck with yours, emma.

Hello, this is my first posting. I am a new mum and my baby is nearly 3 months old. Yesterday I started getting heavier than normal periods. I am breastfeeding so I am a little scared to what it could mean. Please advise me.

I would go and see your GP, Newmummy, it’s probably nothing to worry about but would set your mind at rest.
