Tranexamic acid advice please!

Hello,
I need some advice about taking these pills please.
My periods are annoyingly long. Days of spotting, my period then kicks in and is really heavy and floody for a day or two then more days of spotting. All in all about 10 days usually. My cycle is only about 22 days so this is very annoying.
Thids period the early spotting actually stopped for 24 hours on day 7 then the heavy bleeding kicked in on day 9 on the day of a party i was going to. I decided to try the tranexamic acid tablets I had been prescribed but have always been worried about using (not sure why). They worked a treat and what i expected to be a evening of staying at home near the bathroom, was a managable evening and I got to go out! The trouble is I'm now on day 12 and I'm still bleeding. It's very very light but still happening. I have been taking the pills 2pills 3 x a day for the last 3 days. Should I take them again for a fourth day or am I just making it last longer. Should I just stop and get on with bleeding? I'm pretty sure this is premenepausal. I have tried and hated the merina coil. Im now wondering if I should give the pill a try. Although I hear that causes spotting too. I hate my body sometimes!!!! X

As far as I remember, tranexamic acid causes the bleeding to clot more and reduces the flooding that way. It would not make your bleed go on longer - although maybe it would if it’s now clotting what is a light flow and making it even lighter IYSWIM

I've had tranexamic acid before but I can't recall how long you're allowed to take it for. Were you told it was ok to take it for 4 days straight? I'd call a pharmacy and ask. Pp is right that it's a blood clotting medication so I don't think it's prolonging your bleed.

Go & see your GP, ideally one with specialist training in women’s health. Write down how bad your periods are & how often you have to change protection etc. I found this helped a lot, before I just said they were heavy & that minimalised them. A gynaecologist describes them as torrential in a letter to my GP, I’d got used to that rate of blood loss.

I've taken it for at least 7 days in a row, it's the only way I can control the bleeding and even then I can still flood through tampons in an hour! I've told Dr's about this and no one has told me not to take it for so long. (currently under gynae so hoping for an end to this hell soon)

I used to take it with mefanemic acid that I got on prescription. They're different drug groups.

See your doctor for advice

I find my periods are longer when I take tranexamic acid. I find ibuprofen works a lot better. I take ibuprofen 3 times a day for the whole of my period and then tranexamic acid as well on day 2 when the bleeding is worst. I still need to wear an adult sized nappy as well as a pad on days 2 and 3 but the rest of the time I can just use a thick maternity pad in the day as long as I change pads every 2 hours.

I use my tranexamic Acid for the full 7 days that I bleed. Im on them around two years now and havn't found that they make me bleed longer though I did find that they made it harder for me conceive my 2nd DD

Thank you for tour replies. The bleeding did stop he next day. I've had tummy ache on and off ever since. I wonder if it's the pills or something completely unconnected. There are so many bugs about arent there x
