Fear after smear

Hi guys,

I hope someone can help!

Went for my regular smear test tuesday and was expecting the usual in and out I usually have with smears, but the gp that did it said she is going to tick the box for laposcopy anyway because she saw maybe a bruise, cells outside the cervix and my cervix bled when she stabbed it.

I suffer bad health anxiety and since them my mind has gone into over drive! I haven't even had results,

All previous smear tests have been clear and I've had no symptoms which she said is a good thing
It wasnt the usual gp I see so I mad an appointment for next week to see my regular gp to ask her some questions as I was just in pure shock to think at the time!

Has anyone any experience of this happening to them?
I'm going crazy with the what ifs and googling Sad
Thank you

Yeah, my last one showed up sketchy results. I got an emergency appointment at the hospital. Really doesn't help the anxiety, but they did another smear and it checked out alright.
I can't say don't worry, because it's natural to, but you'll get follow up and chances are it's nothing.

I have no advice for you as this hasn’t happened to me but I would just like to say how quick results seem to be coming back lately if that makes you feel better. You shouldn’t be waiting long.

My first smear results about 3 years ago took about 6-7 weeks to come back. It was awful waiting. My recent smear results were back within a week! I was impressed (everything was ok)

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/11/2019 17:21

Yes that's my experience. Very quick indeed! 2 weeks for me.

solomonsfish85 · 28/11/2019 17:29

Thanks for the replies! Didnt think I'd get any
im in ireland and the gp said 4-6 week waiting!
I think with everything that happened with the cervical check scandal the anxiety about test results etc is scary. I'm now thinking the prob got my last smear results wrong! I really need to chill Hmm
Glad everything turned out ok for you bobbin,

I assume it is a colposcopy you're being sent for. That's fairly normal. It's just a closer look. I had a "crumbly cervix" bled when poked at in smear. Had some excess cells burnt off after I was seen by gynae.
Just had another based on smear result (years later and unrelated). Try not to worry.

solomonsfish85 · 28/11/2019 18:48

Oh the shame! A colposcopy not laposcopy! I'm so bad i cant even get the right name for it!ShockBlush
Thanks belfastian that's reassuring! I just automatically think the worst when it comes to well everything Blush
