I had leetz done about 7 years ago after hpv and changes to cells etc then all clear. Last smear 3 years ago was all clear. Had routine one done today and she said there is a polyp but she can’t see it that clearly. Said I need to make an appointment to see the gp as I will probably need to be referred.

Anyone any experience of this? By worried now! Iv had enough of being interfered with down there with all the treatment in the past! Can’t face more.

I haven't had Leetz, but I have had changed cells. I've also had a polyp. My surgery does them now but I had mine done in the hospital, took about 30 seconds. No anesthetic nor painkillers or anything required after. Mine was apparently in an awkward position (whatever that means!). It was then sent off for testing and was clear. Just a polyp.

Thanks. The nurse was very vague, felt like she was hiding something when I asked questions. Said she couldn’t see properly (so why would a gp be able to see any clearer?) and that how they can get bigger, they have their own blood supply and can cause problems.... then sort of shut me down?

What do you want to know op?
I had one removed, it was pretty big about 2 inches. They snipped it out while I was in the appointment so that was... A nice surprise!

Wonderingwhyme · 29/11/2019 20:39

I guess I just don’t know a great deal about them, what causes them etc and I’m concerned as the nurse was quite vague and worried me because she said I needed to see the gp and I asked if it could wait until the new year and she said no? She also said she couldn’t see properly but if she could see my cervix well enough to do my smear... I don’t know if that is a worry?

She said I had to be seen at the hospital as well.

I had polyps removed after a smear. Not that bad. Was put under

DramaAlpaca · 29/11/2019 20:47

Cervical polyps are very common & I was told by a gynaecologist that they are almost always benign. I have a history of them. A couple have just literally been snipped or pulled off, but I had another out under GA because it was much larger. These days they prefer to get them seen by a gynaecologist & test them just in case. Removal is painless if they are small, there might be a bit of bleeding afterwards but that's all. In short, try not to worry.

I had one removed last week. Mine was also picked up during a smear. The practice nurse said she could see '2 or 3'. I then came back to see the ANP at the practice who could see 'one big one'. The gp made referral to hospital gynae service. I waited maybe 10 weeks for the appointment. The consultant surgeon and specialist nurse saw me together, did the exam and removed the polyp (singular) at the same time. She has sent it for routine testing and I am awaiting results but nothing else indicating it is anything more sinister. Mine was also in 'an awkward place', not sure anywhere down there is less than awkward!

Funko · 29/11/2019 20:52

Also had one. Had it removed in hospital in a remarkably brief appointment. They put a 'silver' paste on the wound after. Had some very mild cramps after and a tiny bit of spotting but it was mostly remnants of the silver paste. Nothing sinister and no worse than a smear test.

PigOnStilts · 29/11/2019 21:22

Well, my gynae told me they're hormonal, I had mine discovered in 2009 when and only had it removed in 2016. They wait to see if your body reabsorbed

PigOnStilts · 29/11/2019 21:27

Removing it doesn't hurt
As pp have said... Its benign

Just think of it like a huge skin tag op 😳

Wonderingwhyme · 29/11/2019 21:47

Ok thanks. I don’t know anyone who’s had them. I’m just upset as about 6:7 years ago I had a lot of treatment and ended up with the LEETS procedure and just the thought of yet more hospital poking is not great. I have slot of stress at the moment and could do without this!

Yeah, I can see why you might not welcome further rummaging about, but it was like a smear test with a bit extra.

You'll probably feel better with it go e anyway.

Wonderingwhyme · 30/11/2019 07:23

Worried about my smear results now too! I haven’t had any symptoms of having a polyp (although I’m single so wouldn’t have at of the bleeding after sex type symptoms).

PigOnStilts · 30/11/2019 08:52

It only bled once after sex for me, unfortunately I was 26 weeks preg so we had a mass panic Grin that's when it was diagnosed.

It was lowish and I don't they all bleed..
